It's just the typical Ford Nation trash that dominates the comment section of all the local newspaper websites. They're particularly fixated on Adam Vaughan for some reason. I suspect his glasses makes them feel intellectually inferior.

There is a real irony here. Vaughan where the right-wing always villainized as this giant boogyman who represents everything that's wrong with liberalism, for being selfish etc. Well Vaughan did the honorable thing and resigned from council as the by-election got started. Unlike the self-proclaimed champion of "tax-payers", Mr. honorable Doug Holyday who did the weasily thing and only resigned after he won his seat, even though Holyday in the past was critical of others doing the same thing. Just show guys like Holyday (and Ford) are all the same, the biggest talker but will never hold themselves to that standard.

I know there's been a phone poll for Trinspa for the federal bi-election a couple of days ago, but I haven't found the result yet.

Provincial trinspa news So far the predictors are giving a slight edge to Marchese . Giving the provincial NDP a 58% chance of winning. Predicting the final vote will be NDP 38%. Lib 34%. PC 19%, Gn 7% Oth 2%

I forgot that Yen was running for council, thanks for the reminder. And yes the Marchese and Vaughan supporters video was kind of hilarious.

Unfortunate to see that Mike Yen is running for councillor. The guy is surprisingly misinformed on so many things. His utter and complete refusal of any tall buildings in the Entertainment District is so poorly thought out that he's likely to create far more problems for the area. As a conservative, he has at times a rather obtuse anti-business stance. He's happy to shove all planning decisions for the area to the OMB because he won't have to do anything. His interests are local and seem to solely revolve around preserving restaurant row exactly as is (which was screwed by the OMB anyway), preserving his views from his condo and keeping low-income people and students out of the ED (he is utterly opposed to the Mirvish proposal and seems to blame Vaughan for it).

^One can hope the trend will continue.

Has anyone officially announced for city councillor in ward 20? Vaughan will be tough to replace. As a resident of the ward, I thought he was an amazing councillor.

Mike Yen is nothing but a puppet, surely. He is hollow and lacks any ideas of his own; he argues against bike lanes, in favour of the airport expansion, casino, etc. He is the conservative party's attempt at capturing voters through ethnic and fear-inducing attributes. He sends propaganda to the condos disguised as a newsletter telling them about how new developments, bike lanes, etc. will destroy their quality of life - while lobbying for things that would have massive negative repercussions.

Mike Yen's logic:

1. Bike lanes cause traffic and traffic is already unacceptably bad - can't be having them.
2. New residential development in the ED causes too much traffic. Can't be having that.
3. Airport expansion or casino? Go for it! It will bring more people to the ward, which is good! Woohoo!

So typical of people who support the airport expansion and the casino but who also whine about the traffic downtown. Hypocrisy is their modus operendi!

I think Vaughan was an excellent councillor, I just happen to disagree with him on most issues. I wrote him recently on the issue of the Central Tech Turf field proposal. He is against, I am for the concept (subject to details being hammered out). I appreciate that he took the time to write a reply. His arguments in my opinion were highly ideological slippery-slope kind of logic rather than addressing the actual issue at hand but that doesn't make him a bad councillor, just one I don't agree with.

PinkLucy, I don't think there is a monopoly on hypocrisy. People just want what benefits them. If you listen to downtown community groups talk about their self-interests it almost angries up the blood to Rob Ford voting levels ;)

Dean Maher, CityPlace Residents' Association founder + President, and Fort York Neighbourhood Association founder will be throwing his name in shortly.

There isn't much of a Tory vote in Trinity-Spadina and like in TC and Danforth, I could see them sitting this one out. On the other hand, they really dislike Vaughan - would that attract to them to the polls. Would they vote strategically in some numbers for Cressy to stop Vaughan (and Trudeau)?
