Feb 17 service changes will see 4,490 service hours added system wide. 33 extra buses will be put into service for AM peak and 40 for PM. This does not count off peak service.

Some routes will see some increase of service while some see almost 50% decrease of headway time.

Some real improvement with ridership falling toward standards. Even though a number of routes are seeing more buses, they still have high 50's and low 60's numbers, but the step in the right direction.

There are only a few things I have issues with. Overall, the Feb 17 service changes are going to impress riders.

Only small changes until June when 4,200 hrs are cut. September will not only see those hrs back, but additional 2,000 hrs added.

Unless noted, weekday.

Coming from Montreal, where transit is for second class citizens, I'm extremely jealous.

Uh, may I suggest bringing back the articulated buses?

If they would only finish Sheppard, thousands of Finch East riders would switc to the north-south buses and then the subway (though this of course won't work with an extra transfer from streetcar to subway at Don Mills). Almost all the high-density on Finch East is clustered at the major intersections.

If it still stays this busy, it would seem to be a prime candidate for streetcar conversion or maybe an express busway in the hydro corridor.

So that's midday service of 3'45" on Wilson itself weekdays. The problem with the 96/165 isn't midday or weekday evening service so much, it's the weekend service where buses are almost always crowded or overcrowded eastbound between 10AM and 3PM, and westbound from 12PM to 7PM, even with closed doors, Saturday and Sunday.

Currently, midday/early evening service on Wilson on Saturday is every 6 minutes, but part of the problem is that buses enter service from York Mills Station weekends, so "midday" service eastbound starts an hour later than it should. Sundays, service is every 8 minutes midday only, otherwise every 10-15 minutes.

Should go to 5 minutes at least Saturdays from 10AM - 9PM, 6 or 7 minutes Sunday from 11AM - 7PM.

Also, the loads are based on "Lift" buses, but the RTS buses don't run weekends, they're all lower capacity Orion VIIs.

Just one of many examples of poor TTC service management.

As I noted, TTC is moving toward lower ridership numbers on buses with this change. Cannot happen overnight as much as we want too.

"Lift" buses will see standard 36 for off peak. Peak was 57 and will be lower to 49, down from the current 59 for 165.

This is the first wave with the 2nd in Sept and spreading the increase of service across the system, not just to one route 100%

As for artic's, bring them on as they are long over due. They will be showing up within the next 2 years. TTC is upgrading a garage lifts system for artic's buses now. Doing this at great cost is a clear messages that artic's are coming.

If the government is willing to pickup 100% of the cost of building the Shepperd subway line from Downsview to Marham Rd including rolling stock and operation cost, added it as an extra to the Move2020. Otherwise, it's an LRT. I do support the conversion of the existing subway to LRT.

I see the Sheppard subway not going west to Weston Rd, but to the airport and Pickering. This opens up a huge market for riders to the airport as well a faster way from the north and east.

My fear for services increase is we are going to run out of RSG buses and no more are on order. We are somewhere around 200 buses short now compare to the 80's and we are very close to that max number of riders then. 2007 saw 460 million riders up 6 million plan for.

As I noted, TTC is moving toward lower ridership numbers on buses with this change. Cannot happen overnight as much as we want too.

My argument is that the resouces were not allocated as well as they should be. Wilson would do just fine until September without the midday service increase if weekends were improved.

78 second headways just for the 39E? Is that a typo? I mean, 78 seconds is already crazy for a route overall, but 78 seconds for just one branch of a route???

39E was all routes, not just the 39 express

As a note, it saids that lift buses will see 53 riders below 57 for peak.

It would be interesting to see where TTC use point load for buses on 39 to come up with numbers of riders in the first place outside of Finch station.

Its a yes and no answers depending who you ask. To you it maybe no, but to the rider it yes. I have issues with some of these changes and what you are saying is one of them. Since I don't how each garage operates, as well what crews are like, it hard for me yes or no.

It also depends on the drivers TTC has for this area.

Unless I have the master sign up list system wide in front of me, I cannot say there are X buses here or there to put on k route at Y time. I can say Z buses are needed at P headway based on data counts. Does garage 1 have the buses to do this or do I go to 2 for them? It could be a combination of both.

Not always a simple answers and I not defending TTC. I need more data.

Now what make you sure TTC could do what you say?

Finch East doesn't just need articulated buses...it needs the DRL! If memory serves me correctly, Seneca is the biggest trip generator along Finch (and the 4th largest post-secondary institution in the city), so a Don Mills line would both serve Seneca and take thousands of people downtown. Finch East is definitely a route where thousands upon thousands of riders can and should be shifted to other transit routes/modes. Frequency approaching one minute is absurd.

Montreal announced a similiar service increase: http://www.stm.info/English/info/moreoften.htm costing $300 million.

It's hard to tell how much service increase there will be on the buses, but the across the board frequency increase on the Metro is impressive.

Thanks for the note, I actually didn't know about that. Still a long to go but a small step in the right direction, I guess.
