Oh man, I remember the ICON. Those things were terrible. I never realized that was an Ontario Ministry of Ed project!

Oh gawd I remember those lumpy things. Decide your excellence was fun...until Civ came along. The system did bias me towards trackball (still a trackball kind of guy)

I was at Castle Frank today and tapped my card. Instead of the gate opening, it stayed shut leading me to walking into it. As I stepped back the gate went out of service and the collector forced me to pay another fare. Has this happened to anyone else?

It happened to me at Lawrence West station the only difference is after the collector asked me to pay again I waited for him not to pay attention which was only a few seconds after asking for help to walk through the gate. Then I tweeted to brad Ross who had someone look into it and I got a refund.

Tweeted the TTC and they were did not even offer to help saying either my card was broken or I had no money.

Tweet @hmacmillanbrown @ttcsue and @bradttc (off twitter until 24th), one of them should help you; heather is their Presto customer service/outreach specialist from what I understand, she's very nice and quite helpful. Likely if you tweeted @ttchelps you just got an agent who doesn't know what they're talking about, which is sadly a large percentage of them.

These issues with the faregates are widespread, as evidenced in this thread you certainly aren't the first to have that problem, so it's ridiculous for them to say your card must have been broken or low on funds. Long-term, of course, ideally that should be an acceptable response from customer service as that should be the only reason the gate wouldn't open, but right now that is certainly not the case. Brad or Heather should help you.

Will do, thanks.

Warning! You might actually have to use this ancient ICON computer to check your PRESTO transactions.

The Metropass has a "pass back" feature to prevent someone passing their Metropass to another to get through the Metropass turnstiles, for a number of minutes.

Hopefully, if the PRESTO gates do not open, it does not "complete" the transaction for PRESTO. That should allow you to use another gate without a penalty or "pass back" kicking in.

According to many reports, that is not the case, when you tap and there's a glitch in the gates causing them not to open, most people have reported that they are charged a fare, and that the no-double-tap lockout kicks in preventing any other gate from being used with that card for a while.

Of course, if the gate says 'not in service' from the beginning or is configured as exit-only, this isn't a concern, but this occurs if the gate says it's operational then you tap and a) nothing happens or b) it says declined despite you having money on your card.

You can bet that if this had been the case you would have read reports of it here!

Then it's a definite software problem.

so is there a schedule on when they will start working on the remaining gates? it seemed like after they ticked the checkbox for 2016 they just went back
to their old slacking ways.
