Tory and Soknaki? They didn't bring the Relief Line to the table. The Province of Ontario did. Ontario is the one building and funding the thing.
Hardly. York Region getting the Yonge extension to almost the top of the agenda brought the DRL to the table.

It's not something they can do anything about. Why does their opinion on it matter?
Because the next mayor could kill it.

Word is the H6's will see their last runs in June. Better catch them while you can as well photograph then as video tape them.

That would mean that we only have T1s and TRs then right? How long until the T1s stop running on Yonge again?
Only until there are enough TR on site. The commission approved the request to buy another 10 trains.

Got off my first TR today where the doors open as the current fleet have done finally. Wasn't that way yesterday Was on the BD Tuesday coming in where a door fail to close on a TI front car at High Park. The door open as normal, but refused to close the last 2". There happen to be 2 supervisors on the car for some unknown reason and they couldn't get the door open after a few attempts by the guard even using the key. They put up the door closure with one supervisor standing there.

Interesting news from Steve Munro:

After the road construction project of 2013 that rebuilt Kingston Road from Queen to Victoria Park including streetcar track, water mains, sidewalks and roads, the TTC had planned a celebration last December with free rides on a Sunday afternoon.

Then there was a little storm.

Streetcar overhead wires were thickly coated in ice, tree branches were down everywhere, and the celebration was put on hold.

Now, Spring has arrived! (Trust me, really.)

On Sunday, March 30 from noon to 4:00pm, the TTC will operate a PCC shuttle on Kingston Road between Woodbine and Bingham Loops. For the railfans among my readers (you know who you are) this will be a rare chance to see a car looping back east from Woodbine Loop rather than the much more common short turns in the opposite direction.

What current fleet are you talking about? TR or T1?

It's really doubtful that they will last that long. There are only 5 trains of them left at Greenwood. There are two TRs currently in set-up/testing and Bombardier seems to have the deliveries back up to speed so we should see enough TRs to retire the rest of them by the end of April.

Glen Murray awarded TTCriders’ ‘sardine’ honour

Transit advocacy group TTCriders has awarded Ontario’s transportation minister its very first Sardine Award for what it calls his government’s poor funding record for public transit.

MPP Glen Murray was not in his Cabbagetown constituency office at 514 Parliament St. in Toronto when nearly 100 people carrying signs and donning sardine hats gathered at the door Friday afternoon.

The advocacy group gave Murray the award “because the Liberal Government has for years refused to regularly contribute fair funding to the TTC, even though it has had the power to do so,” member Jennifer Huang said in a news release.

In a statement emailed to CityNews, the minister shot back at the group saying his government has pledged $50-billion in spending on capital expansion projects in the GTA.

“I think to give the provincial government the ‘sardine award’ is a joke when the federal government has the worst record in the OECD for investments in transit, and the City of Toronto has more revenue options for funding transit than any other city in Canada, thanks to the City of Toronto Act, and chooses not to use them.

“I’m hoping the group takes their energy to the governments actually not investing in transit, instead of protesting in front of a government that’s dedicated to transportation infrastructure expansion and is funding 90 per cent of the cost of rapid transit expansion in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.”

TTCriders is demanding the provincial government dedicate $700-million annually to the TTC to improve service and reduce fares.

According to the group, if Toronto received subsidies on par with other North American cities, like Vancouver, the TTC budget could grow by about $1-billion to around $2.5-billion.

Last month, the group launched a social media campaign asking riders to share pictures of their crowded and frustrating commutes, using the hashtag #TTCsardines. The campaign goal was to send politicians a strong message that more transit funding is needed for the TTC, the group said.

Was hoping they would give it to Rob Ford, since if it wasn't for his meddling, the Sheppard and Finch LRTs could be about to start service within the next year which would have done wonders for the two of the most congested bus routes. While there is no question the Liberals could do a better job, with a spring election around the corner and the PCs in a position to take power (and cut what gains the Liberals have made over the last decade), it would have been smart to play politics and go after someone who has a clear anti-transit agenda.

If they are to do this campaign again next year, then by all means go after the provincial Liberals.

that would roughly triple the subsidy. $430ish million is the current subsidy., honestly, asking for something like $100 million annually is much more likely to see the day.

The province also already pays for roughly 21% of the subsidy through gas taxes..

Interesting to see the group go after the province, which has been relatively pro-transit. Why didn't they direct their attacks on the Feds? The feds could surely help the TTC just as much as the province.

Should have gave it to Karen Stintz.
