If two cars are bunched and the TTC decides to short 1, why do they shortturn the one behind thereby forcing everyone to wait another 5-10 minutes instead of short turning the first one?

Funny...you think its about bunching and improving the passenger experience. They don't care about the passengers. Most likely it was short-turned because a driver wanted to be done his/her shift on time or early. After all his time is more valuable than the 150+ passengers in the car.

So you suggest that they kick off the 100 people from the first car, rather than the 10 from the second?

I'd like to see TTC adopt Express Stops as an alternative to short turns with LFLRVs as I once had on GRT. Change the sign to "Set Down Only" and skip any stops where someone on board doesn't request irrespective of people at the stop. The trailing streetcar can pick those passengers up and the leading streetcar can get back on schedule. Hopefully someone we'll see once VISION is implemented and more routes are all-LFLRV all-the-time.

How come Toronto has 83km of subway?

A '"subway" is defined as "an underground electric railroad". Therefore all underground railways, including the Bay Street streetcar tunnel between Queens Quay and Union, and the underground loops at Spadina Station and St. Clair West Station, could be included.
