FYI - I wrote into my local councillor about removing stops on Spadina. The response stated that the TTC is planning a review of streetcar reliability this year and the report will include: operational performance, route-specific challenges, and opportunities to strengthen service delivery across the network.

This may have been part of council direction when the whole Line 6 service was blowing up but thought I'd mention anyway.

People do not care if 'other peoples stops' are removed but go berserk if THEIR stop is threatened. Councillors get huge amounts of mail about stop removals and often instruct TTC not to remove them.

That's called NIMBYism. Same NIMBYism is occurring with the proposed high-speed rail line (Alto) between Toronto and Quebec City from the farmers along the route. They like the idea, but not in their neck of the neighbourhood.

They can and will remove sleepers; I've seen it personally.
I was on a car when the POPs came through (which seems to happen frequently enough on 506 on lower Gerrard Street). It was quite empty, and they came in the back, I asked them why they hadn't checked the guy sleeping across the back seats. "Do you think he could pay" they asks? Is there nothing you can do (this was before winter - it was a nice day)? "He hasn't done anything wrong, and isn't harming anyone" they says (what, other than not paying, and several sections of Bylaw 1?). We can't do anything unless they a danger to others", The guy, who was about 6 rows away must have stirred, because he started shouting something. So I shouted back at him that he should shut up. Then he started threatening us. I asked if they were going to do anything now "No, if you think it's necessary then you need to press the emergency button".

They did politely ask where he was going to, and he decided to get off ... but it was very Kafkaesque. It's almost like they were doing everything they could to not have to do any paperwork. That they'd so blatantly ignore threats of physical violence was disgusting.

There needs to be a policy shift at TTC to get any real change.

Not that I'm defending those guys, but doing any extra paperwork/reports/investigations sucks. I do everything possible at work to avoid it like the plague.

It's a full teardown at College & Bay...

This is moving along pretty fast. Of course, they still need to replace the rail (top layer of concrete only) from Bay to Church but the intersection (where they go down to 'bedrock' ) is the biggest task. Details at https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/u...wer-CollegeCarlton-ttc-track-conFINALAODA.pdf

This question has probably been asked and answered before so I apologize in advance- but from what i can tell from the first pic, they seem to be installing single-point switches? (Correct me if I am wrong, it is hard to see!)

Why is the TTC installing SPS on new rail installation?

One reason only... its cheaper.

Streetcars make right turns from the left lane. To indicate, drivers in the right lane have to notice the right turn signal on the streetcars (if they don't have blinders on).

In the province of Québec, they use diagonal white bars so that buses can turn left from the right lane. Toronto should use diagonal white transit bars for streetcars turning right, located on the nearside of intersections (along with a red traffic signal for the single-occupant motorist, also located on the nearside. )

See post at https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads/ttc-other-items-catch-all.20264/post-2362138 for video.

because they work, and they don't require having a heating system like on Finch that doesn't work as well as its suposed to. Alos if they aren't workig eetricly its easy to move them maunauly then with a double-bladed switch
