Anyone heard of this proposal before? It would be a massive improvement over the current 2 acre wasteland. Site just south of Glenmore across the street from Avi's head office.

This is the current site:

More about it here: https://www.chabadalberta.org/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/3533855/jewish/The-Vision.htm

It seems like a vision without a concrete proposal but it's encouraging to see a desire for increased density in such a prime location. I predict the final product will be decidedly more conservative.

Kind of a bleak location for residential, adjacent to the busy elevated Glenmore Trail, and the rail tracks. The site hasn't been updated in a while as it lists Sam Switzer (Elbow River Casino) as one of the principals behind the project. He died about a year and a half ago. It also lists Ezra Levant's parents :)

Had a service call at the superstore just off 4th street nw, noticed in the back side of the lot there seemed to be some townhome lookin things being built there. I think they were right in the parking lot back here. Any body know anything about it?

Not sure where it will be moved but the existing coke stage will be demolished to make way for the 17th Ave extension into the park
My guess would be a stage at the plaza south of the Event Centre. The Rivers District Master Plan recommends that 14th and 15th ave be curbless to allow the event space to be extended into the street. Having the stage there would also be of benefit to large events like Calgary Flames playoff parties and festivals along the planned Stampede Trail festival street.

I don’t know much about the project but I’ve seen them building it. Four-story woodframe complex, good density filler. The next time I go by there, I will stop and see if there is any info.

Yeah, bad spot for residential, the area is pretty much an industrial park. I'd like to see more commercial inthere, but residential wouldn't do well I think.

Based on a brochure I grabbed it sounds like the residences will be targeted towards members of the Jewish community including housing for clergy, a hotel with Kosher restaurant and seniors housing. The entire thing is a Jewish outreach community centre billed as a campus. Based on the amount of times they've been targeted by hate crimes I think they prefer an obscure industrial location. From a brief conversation I had it sounds like the building fronting Glenmore might have offices. Not sure though as it isn't mentioned in the literature. Based on the rendering I can see it as a possibility. Then again the brochure says: "This is our vision in reaching the ultimate desired campus. Based on funding, and interest, plans and priorities will change. New proposals and ideas are always encouraged and welcome." So I guess it's more vision than anything atm.

Perhaps they could use the area already designated in the plan as Exhibit Plaza for the new Coke Stage. It is a very large open space and could incorporate a covered stage if designed into the building.

My idea comes from the Du Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. It is incorporated into Ferrari World and the roof of Ferrari world acts as a stage roof but opens into a wonderful outdoor amphitheater concert venue.

Not saying we need a permanent stage here, but even a space designed to house a nice temporary stage each year would be good. Then it could showcase some potentially interesting BMO Convention Center expansion architecture behind it if we are lucky and get a world class design.

I think a report is coming in these:

Interesting!

Could be a positive catalyst for Manchester and Fairview.

I wonder where the station south of Chinook is going to be? I also wonder how two more stations on the south line will effect travel time to downtown?
