Question: If you could fill 1 empty parking lot/parcel/block in the downtown area (including all neighbourhoods), which would it be and what would you like to be built there?

Public market just south of 8th Ave Place, between 4th and 5th. Relatively cheap, leverages a huge amount of proximate parking, provides a every day 'destination' which downtown really lacks.

South side of 8th Avenue, between 9th and 10th Street SW. Would love to see just a regular mixed use residential over retail, but if we are dreaming, one with a pretty cool design. Not necessarily a tower, would rather see something more human scaled, to complete this missing link of Stephen Ave in the downtown West End. Something like Mirvish Village in Toronto, but without the towers (I could live with one at the corner) would be fantastic:

I wonder what is the all time winner of a lot that had buildings, was demolished, and has stayed vacant for the longest time..

Good question. Where 1334-10th is going in has been an empty lot for at least 30 years, maybe longer.

My vote:

701 11 ST SW.
Home of the original Mount Royal college. Demolished sometime between 1972 and 1975, a vacant lot ever since. 47+ years vacant.

I decided to stop mucking up this thread and continued it here:

So many empty spaces to choose from. For me, I would have to say behind the National on 10th between 10th and 11th Ave. Some retail and nice condos. That would be noice.

Good call. Clearing began between 1982 and 1984 and was completed by 1988. So 36+ years vacant.

Good to see many restaurants in CORE Mall food court extended their hours recently. They vary a little bit. If you weren't a breakfast place these restaurants were only open from 11:00am to 3:00pm which always frustrated me. Now, some are open as early as 10:00AM and as late as 6PM.
This is great news for the mall, commuters, and businessmen. Instead of them only catering to the lunch rush, they now are catering to people who want an early lunch or late breakfast, and now dinner.

Speaking of hours of The Core, reminds me of this stupid video where the guy shows that nobody is shopping at the Core.... but films it before the businesses are open 😐 The video deserves some downvotes.
