How should Toronto connect the East and West arms of the planned waterfront transit with downtown?

  • Expand the existing Union loop

  • Build a Western terminus

  • Route service along Queen's Quay with pedestrian/cycle/bus connection to Union

It has two real sections. The work on the loop at Union and the tunnel from Union to Queens Quay and the extension of the east-west track along Queens Quay to Parliament or Cherry. I suspect the plans for the track part are quite advanced so MAYBE it makes sense to do that first?
You can do QQ ROW east of Freeland to Parliament, as this is a given what will be built since it will be the same as the west. The Loop and Tunnel not close to meeting 30% design work at this time. Until the review is done for moving the Portal from Freeland to west of Yonge, can't do any design work with the report due my June. Waterfront Toronto would be happy to see Freeland to Parliament done first since this is the real construction zone for development.

The extension from the Ex to Dufferin is at 30%, but could be held up until Metrolinx comes up with final design for the EX GO Station and tunnel.

With the rebuilding of the tracks on QQW from Dan Leckie to Bathurst due in the next few years, can bump up design work timetable to make that section like the rest of QQW. Also moving the Bathurst tracks to the west side in it own ROW as well rebuilt the Fleet intersection for the change of location of tracks.

I am sure there will be a push for the Line 2 extension, let alone Yonge and Ontario Line.
 
This March 2020 tender call from WT is presumably connected to the fixin' up of QQE (and the extension of the streetcar along it).

Waterfront Toronto (legally known as Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation) is seeking proposal submissions from firms for Sub-Surface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigations – Queens Quay East, as further described in Appendix A, Part 2 – Project Requirements and Deliverables (the “Deliverables”).

It looks like one of the recommendations was to examine building the Queen's Quay East section before Union Station.

That was before the moving of the portal location and "IF" the new QQ Station can be built while the line is in service surface.

Until it known if the Portal will be west of Yonge or not, only can do design work for the T connection and station, as well east of Freeland.

This will allow east-west service while the tunnel and loop is rebuilt. It will be a walking transfer to/from Union or using the route 6 bus.

The idea has been for this east-west service was to built the east section up to the T connection. Once built, close the west line for about 6 months to rebuild the plan T connection as well part of the tunnel connection. One the tunnel and loop is ready, then service will change to 2 509 routes and most likely a straight through line. Its unknown at this time what TTC will do for service for both sections of the QQ line. 510 is still supposed to go to Union.

Have no issue doing the bypass first, as it will be faster and cheaper than the tunnel and loop.
 
Not sure, though there was supposed to be public consultation in the early Spring including a preliminary feasibility assessment of phasing and portal locations.

There will be no public open house for the various changes until it safe to have one and that most likely be in the fall at this time. Can do an online consultation, but what kind of feed back are you going to get from it and when?? We are in the Spring now.

Just think of the 100's of million dollar saving and up and running sooner if the whole thing was on the surface and using duel end cars. Could have been up and running by 2016, not this X date.
 
Contract for 30% design work on the underground portion of Waterfront LRT, is coming to the next TTC Meeting on June 17, 2020

Union Station Loop, Queen's Quay Station, and portal/tunnel.

3 more years, at the very least, until construction contracts can go out. This is moving at a glacial pace.
 
I saw all of those images and hints but I didn't see where they specifically called out that they had selected the portal west of Yonge.
