There was a plan Quite a while back to build a hotel or residential tower in the south parking lot area near Phase 1 and 2. Out Back of Land End

I may be repeating myself somewhat but here are some factors pro and con:
- with VLW completing I suspect there will be a dip in parking demand (not a great dip but a dip that is scale measurable); if so there would be a strong rationale for redevelopment of at least one (maybe two) parking areas presenting themselves for redevelopment.
- apartment living adjacent to WEM could have an appeal for myriad workers who have employment in the mall and it could be designed in 555 fashion that would allow for great interior green spaces (apartment common areas).
- new development could also provide incentive for having parking underground and automated; one result would be the mall having a more approachable exterior architecture.
- a disincentive to development is the fact that the mall as an asset is tied up in support of American malls that 555 owns so financing could be a challenge.

Maclab owns the property kitty corner to the SE corner of WEM. So I’d assume we’d see some type of medium density there at some point.

Was at WEM for my one of two trips of the year out there with some out of town guests. I forgot what that parking lot outside of T&T was like.

Man o man we need a Simons Downtown.

Galaxy Orbiter fantastic for the first 1/3, then too disorientating followed by a lacklustre last 1/3; I miss the bender.

Well the Mindbender replacement is currently sitting in a yard in Acheson, so hopefully we will be able to ride it this time next year.

• West Edmonton Mall has welcomed several new/returning enterprises: first up is Bonjour Bagel. I will say I don’t quite understand the name or connection to Paris given bagels aren’t typically associated with France.
• The Pizza Spot, with another location in Spruce Grove, has opened at West Edmonton Mall.
• Lastly, Baskin Robbins, after previously closing in Edmonton, has returned with not one, but two locations at WEM.

I wasn going to say bagels are synonymous with Montreal but after looking at their Instagram page, they're definitely referencing Paris, so odd indeed.

A seafood boil restaurant has opened its first location in Edmonton | Food & Drink

Bag O' Crab has opened its second Canadian location right in West Edmonton Mall, serving up delicious Cajun seafood boils.

Their seafood sounds delicious but I'm not impressed by this Bourbon Street eatery closing their doors at 6:30 pm every night.

I’m surprised the mall would even allow this. It’s been 20+ years since I worked in a mall, but I worked in both West Ed and Southgate and they were both extremely strict on the operating hours for the businesses matching the mall hours. They actually threatened the lease on one location when we were short-staffed and unable to open until later in the day several times.

It’s been 20+ years since I worked in a mall, but I worked in both West Ed and Southgate and they were both extremely strict on the operating hours for the businesses matching the mall hours. They actually threatened the lease on one location when we were short-staffed and unable to open until later in the day several times.

I’ve heard the same thing about WEM and 555, but they’ve allowed Chik-Fil-A to close on Sundays since it opened almost 2 years ago. Simons also closes at 7 pm every night except Thurs to Sat.
