Thank-you for the continued posts every quarter.

It feels, to me, like Calgary could get to a tipping point in the next few years where inner-city living is a viable option for many more people. The Beltline and Core are of course seeing major amounts of construction, but those areas are also supported by projects in slightly more outlying areas like Killarney, Glenbrook, Kensington, up to 16 Ave North etc and vice versa....it's a $10 Uber or jump on a scooter during summer.

I recently listened to a podcast with Bob Dhillon from Mainstreet Equities, from a couple of years ago, and he said that Calgary has the best Inner-city of a mid sized city in North America, we just need an extra 100 000 (perhaps he said 200 000) people living there and it looks like we are well on the way.

That’s his name Bob Dhillon? 😂

100,000 is about right. I recall in another thread the area in downtown’s three mile radius is 150,000. Add another 100,000 and you’ve got the critical mass for the inner city to be its own city.

I'll have to dig that up, it was from using a population calculation tool using numbers from the 2021 census IIRC.

You're welcome!

I tend to think of Calgary's core as that 3 km mile radius around downtown, and the inner city as a 4km radius around the downtown (my own personal definitions). The 3 km radius shown above with 148K is going by 2021 numbers, and it's quite possible that today it's more like 165-170K. I can see that same core hitting 200k by 2031. It's not 100k extra, but it's a significant boost.
