^ That's from the annual NAIOP case comp between U of A, U of C, and I think now UBC as well. Each year a real site is chosen and students from each school put together a comprehensive redevelopment proposal and present it to a panel of judges. Winning team gets the 'Golden Shovel' award.

If any U of A students are reading this: enroll in Business Economics 457 - Real Estate Development. It's a full three credit course where all you do is work on this case comp. By far the best learning experience for getting a taste of working in real estate development.

Now now… at least the students will learn something.

Which is more than can be said about much of the futility of many of the projects and threads that occupy us here where nothing gets done and nothing is learned.

Sites featured in this case comp are owned by one of the event sponsors and usually they do have real intentions to eventually develop/redevelop it.

That said, I was on a team for this almost a decade ago and the site we did a proposal for is still sitting as-is so it's certainly no guarantee anything will happen.
