I'll tack on here that Eataly is coming to Sherway.

I posted the press release elsewhere, so I'll link to the Retail-Insider story here:

Looks like this location will be small by Eataly standards at 25,000-30,000f2

Note the adjacency to Saks.
Why do I have a feeling Saks / Pusateri will be gone soon and Holts will be back at Sherway with Eataly coming...

As doesn't the Weston's have ownership in Eataly in Canada, so would make sense to have them together. Otherwise it does seem like a very odd location for Eataly as I would expect them to want more visibility like on the front side of the mall?

It does look like 2 floors so will it be closer to 45-50k sq ft?

Haven't heard anything on that yet; but wouldn't surprise me.

Yes, that's correct.

It simply does seem odd to me, it seems out of step w/their brand globally. I would add Manulife was also a bit of a departure; but at least the neighbourhood there made sense.

Apparently Pusateri Sherway is closing end of January... store was very empty today with all counters already closed (meat, cheese) and no produce...Employee said end of January...

No, as I have mentioned before in the Sherway Mall thread, there is a protected alignment for the subway extension, if it's ever built. Anyone planning buildings in the area has to stay clear of the alignment.

This is from the general Rapid Transit Expansion Study of 2002. I know there's an older, more precise document out there, just can't find it at the moment.

Is the TTC allergic to cost savings? I've been trying to find the Line 2 extension specific routing and cannot believe the TTC planned it wholly tunneled????

For reference, this is what some of the rail corridor the TTC wanted to tunnel under looks like. It's not even like we don't have the precedent for CP letting the city use this rail corridor for transit, that's how it gets to Kipling Station. No wonder the province took all transit expansion powers from the city these morons couldn't put a lego set together.

You should send this photo to Toronto area developers who are in the (people) container business... for inspiration.
I genuinely think a shipping container yard would make great inspiration for residential development: 5 storeys tall, mix of narrow lanes and wider pedestrian boulevards, nice and colourful.

I like this development proposal (and the trend of mall in-fill generally) but public transit access to Sherway Gardens kinda sucks. So 1500 or more new units is great, but are they all going to be car-dependent?

For now they will. I think a Sherway subway extension is getting up there in the priority list though.
That's been talked about for how long though? And there seems to be disagreement over whether or not subway to Sherway is even necessary. Plus despite years of dense tower proposals nothing has been built in the area at all since those 4 towers on the south side along Evans went up, what, 15 years ago now?? Developers don't seem in any rush around here...

Put a subway and it’s immediately highly desirable. It’s already highly desirable but I’m sure Sherway doesn’t really want to get rid of their parking.

The subway should have been extended in the mid 80's but considering the disastrously slow timelines of RT expansion I think the city needs to take the lead and build some kind of BRT on the Queensway from Sherway to Parklawn GO. The TTC already seems to be interested in having the 80 Queensway's RT connection be the Lakeshore West line as they are already branching the line to run direct to Mimico GO, likely a holdover until Parklawn GO opens.

This general concept makes a lot of sense, reducing travel times to the core by cutting out the hyper congested + low ridership stretches of the current 80 route on Lakeshore Blvd and Parkside Drive for the majority of riders residing on the Queensway. The trip to the core would be much less circuitous, and cut out a transfer hopefully making these developments more transit oriented than Gardiner oriented.
