Nah, I stole that picture off Councillor Paul Ainslie's Twitter. It's a nice looking render, though so far beyond the scope of what's doable in ten years that it's crazy. They can totally get the mall -- or 'Town Centre' as they called it -- built and open within that timeframe, though.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

There is no process for impeaching a sitting Toronto Mayor. He'd have to be convicted of a crime. You don't need to impeach him anyway. If 23 councillors start voting against him, he'll have no power to do anything.

All of this, in less than 10 years somehow! Do you believe in magic? I hope you do.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

For a Toronto Mayor, 45% is crazy *low*. For comparison, David Miller was still riding the 70% wave at the end of his first term in office. It wasn't until the city workers strike that he dropped. Lastman's numbers were decent until the end too -- and he had a god damned 87 per cent approval...

Could you give us the names some of your professors? I feel like they might take issue with your enthusiasm for the public spaces offered by Fallsview Casino.

Your point is well taken, but it's worth noting that the addition of elevated rail and, presumably, elevated stations would have significant impacts on the plans for other parts of the eastern waterfront.

I'd very much support a city-led effort to work with Waterfront Toronto and find ways to unlock future revenues and get things moving more quickly in the Port Lands. That is not what this is. Even what you're proposing, where the city uses this strategy to build revenues to fund further...

    Toronto Toronto | Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

I quite expect the presentation documents and renders of Doug Ford's Port Lands to be very nice. Maybe jaw-droppingly nice. Why wouldn't they be at this point? The issue isn't one of aesthetics but of control. The city -- the people -- will undoubtedly be giving up final say in the ultimate...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Woodbine is being brought up because it's a project that was presented under very similar terms as this Port Lands stuff: private sector investment, won't cost the city a dime, will be done quickly & efficiently, and create jobs and drive tourism. The City offered more than a billion dollars in...

No, it's tasked with preparing properties for sale.

You understand that there is a fully-formed plan for the area that was unanimously approved by Council, right?

    Waterfront: General Topics

Transit City was able to die without a council vote because Metrolinx and the province saw the writing on the wall and realized they couldn't push forward with a transit plan denounced by a recently-elected Toronto mayor with popular support. A similar thing could happen with Waterfront Toronto...

    Toronto Toronto | Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

I don't even think it's that complicated. Doug Ford is Vice Chair of Build Toronto, the agency set up by Miller to manage sections of the City's real estate portfolio and prepare lands for sale to the private sector. It's a potential cash cow for the city and could fund the kind of conservative...

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

The Pan-Ams got us speedy development of a whole new neighbourhood in the West Don Lands. Athletic events like these represent the only surefire way to get provincial and federal investment in municipal infrastructure and greenspaces. It's not an ideal circumstance, but it is what it is.

    Waterfront: General Topics

Yes, Doug Ford's plan to let the private sector drive development of the Port Lands will almost inevitably result in an outcome very much like CityPlace or the Central Waterfront. That's why this is so infuriating: we have tried this strategy before and no one was happy with the outcome.

    Monorail for Toronto

I think he's more like a Forest Gump figure, who has overcome some personal challenges and gone on to live a life filled with crazy madcap adventures filled with cameos from politicians and other celebrities. In the end, he'll retire on the money he made in the shrimping business.

    Waterfront: General Topics

I think you've already got a pretty good grasp on it, as the machinations of the municipal decision making process is actually a good deal simpler than the process with the other orders of government. Quick summary: - An item, like this one regarding the Port Lands, is drafted ether by the...

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

Yes, plus the unannounced cancellation fees that Toronto is still on the hook for, as per the memo released back in March. It seems likely at this point that this mayor will cost us more in wasted capital funds than he'll save with his gravy-cuts.

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

The federal government are the ones (potentially) being dicks in this situation, though there appears to be a serious oversight on our mayor's part as well. As I understand it, several years back, the feds decided to come on board and fund the Sheppard East LRT in partnership with the province...
