Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

So long as Queen's Park controls ML purse strings, they can jerk them around any which way they please. Dedicated transit funding would let ML get on with the most needed projects and let pet projects come from supplemental funding.

Metrolinx: Sheppard East LRT (In Design)

These two points seem to be contrary. If LRT is an over-build, HRT would be even worst. Also, the HRT/LRT connection is designed to be at the platform level. Not really a 'long term' issue any more than a HRT/BRT connection would be for future conversion.

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

Bloor GO Station is being built with knock-out panels for a future Dundas West TTC connection. The TTC will need to acquire some of the parking garage space of the Crossways building for a fare-paid line and elevators. There was thought from Metrolinx to do this at the same time as the work at...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I haven't driven all of them, but when I worked in the UK we had the contracts for south London as well as most everything south of the M4 (Devon, Corwall, Summerset, Dorset). It has been a couple years now, and I probably relied on my GPS too much. Our basic assumption was you can't go inside...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

London has the M1, A1(M), A2, M2, M3, M4. While they don't keep their motorway designation all the way though, you can stay on one road any get through London. I viewed the 407 like the M25 orbital, a way to by-pass the city, not go through it.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

While it doesn't give you a comparison of other world leaders, you can find segment AADT for the 401 at: http://www.raqsb.mto.gov.on.ca/techpubs/TrafficVolumes.nsf/tvweb?OpenForm&Seq=1 HWY 400 to Dixon Rd all have over 400k AADT in 2008. Ontario/Toronto is a rarity in the world only having...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I'm glad there is some common sense in the Ford crowd. Karen Stinz: "If the decision is to go with an LRT, it should be at-grade,” she said. “If there’s a decision to put it underground, it should be a subway."...

    Bicycle Paths

I split my time between Toronto and Waterloo, so any more trail videos you can provide would be useful information. :)

    London Experiments With Shared Streets

The storms and weather might not be as intense as southern Ontario, but they do have their own extereme weather events. There will always be conditions that challenge the capacity of the infrastructure, it's just a question of if you build for a 5-year storm or a 100-year storm.

    London Experiments With Shared Streets

I'd be interested in seeing the street in rainy conditions, which dominate the British year. Kerbs/curbs are meant as much to give surface runoff a place to pool as to separate cars and pedestrians.

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

I don't think we'll see a DRL in the next two decades. However, by then I'd hope GO Transit is well on the way to electrifying the whole system. The recession will slow down transit improvements this decade as we try to grow out of deficits. While we don't have the money for new big ticket...

    Under-lake Maglev (or High-speed Rail) to Niagara/Buffalo

The problem with the failed hovercraft crossings was the limited usability, exposure to bad weather, and limited speeds. With a 50km MagLev line (300 kph) along the floor of Lake Ontario (rather than drilled under it like the Channel Tunnel), you are looking at a 10 minute trip. Have a few...

Canadians willing to pay road tolls.

I would go a step further and toll ALL the 400-series highways from end to end. To counter the added cost to commuters, I would also decrease the provincial gas tax, thereby rewarding those that don't use the 400-series highways to commute.

    Roads: Roundabouts

Do you really believe people don't understand 4-way stops, or they merely do not wish to obey a rule that impedes them more then necessary? Do you come to a full and complete stop everytime or do you do rooling stops as well? Isn't it better to make the rules reflect the driving style being...

    Transit City Comeback?

The underlying needs will most likely not evaporate, but he specific local conditions will change meaning the technology choice and routing made under other conditions won't still be ideal. So any plan that actually addresses the City's needs will reflect some aspects of Transit City. The whole...

Don Mills, Scarborough East, Jane LRT/Subway.

I believe two parts of the rush on Sheppard East were: (1) having something in the ground to make the plan harder to throw out, as Eglinton was the most valuable, building Sheppard East first would encourage it wasn't just dropped; and (2) an expected surge in construction activity and wanting...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

As part of the GO 2020 strategy, the corridor will be upgraded and extended to Aurora Road in Stoufville. Phase I of the project, beginning in the fall and completed Fall 2013, will construction the Gormley GO Station where the line intersects Stouffville Road, create a train layover facility...

Which is more effective for better transit? Signal Priority or Dedicated ROW?

I've voted Neither/Other, as I believe a grade-seperated Right of Way is more effective than either signal priority or an at-grade deticated Right of Way. Without signal prioritization, a deticated Right of Way has limited effectiveness. Similarly, signal prioritization in mixed traffic is...

TTC: Bloor Danforth Line 2 West Extension(s)

There is a need for a new tunnel/fly-over and bridge at the Humber, which will cost ~$500m without any other improvements. The 2009 Feasibility Study, showed a cost of $1.5 billion just to have all-day service on the line, let alone electrifying or replacing the whole rolling stock. I'd say $4...

Why Streetcars Make People Crazy! (Picture)

Are you another of those that can't seperate the St Clair LRT works from the St Clair Urban Redevelopment works? What specifically about the LRT ROW was a mess? Even if it were one project, that's like saying every subway Toronto builds in the future will be as useful as Sheppard.
