It's their opinion versus mine...fact is, the SRT was a waste of money overall. They should've extended it to STC back then.

I read that, but I just don't understand how it's a success since it should have been subway from the beginning. I consider the whole SRT project to be a massive failure.

Actually curious why they decided to build an SRT at the time instead of extending the subway.. Lots of wasted money and time and effort...and they have the guts to call it a successful project? In what way is it successful? That corridor could've been used for the subway.

The only thing wrong with the SSE is that it shouldn't be just one stop. But nothing can be done without more funds.

The Star is known to be anti-subway though. So it's still possible that with a couple of cost saving measures it would be enough to finish it.

Anyways it looks like there's only enough funds for the SSE and nothing leftover for other transit projects. Maybe look into private financing for the DRL if there's a business case to be made for it.

Dunno if it's just me, but I always get the feeling LRT proponents don't actually want the best for Scarborough and only want to cheap out on Scarborough. I guess it doesn't help that the LRT line just happens to cost less than the SSE.

that mega relief line looks beautiful. I really like how that one looks. BTW, the $5 billion doesn't come from me, but I started using that figure because that number does feel like what the SSE will cost at the end, considering the early stage in planning and accounting for inflation etc.

Your hypothetical network of LRTs could be much better if it was a network of subway stations. Building a network of LRTs would just end up limiting Scarborough's long term growth.

I see this annoying trend of downtown people trying to take the Scarborough funds to use on their DRL. And then trying really hard to try to justify it. But I guess it's only natural that people have different agendas. I wish this topic could actually be about how to best use the Scarborough...

It's Scarborough's turn to get transit now, and the subway station is our best option with the limited funds. DRL is best for downtown, SSE is best for scarborough. Hopefully we both get what we want.
