That pdf link is still broken. Is the proposal some sort of low-rise townhome thing?

Toronto Toronto | The Garrison at The Yards | ?m | 12s | Onni Group | Wallman Architects

I agree. When you first look at it, it's ridiculously close to the Gardiner. But if you think about having one of the north-facing units with a preserved view of Fort York, you wouldn't even really notice that that the Gardiner is there. And once the neighbourhood gets filled in a little more...

Has anyone seen or heard anything more a recent on this? A quick google search didn't turn up much.

Just walked by and there is some swanky party going on at the hotel. People on the rooftop patio, Citytv trucks outside. It even looked like people were in the rooms. So I guess it happened ahead of it's original date?

    Requiem for Detroit

Thanks for the heads up on this! Just finished watching and it's an amazing doc for anyone with even a remote interest in urban issues. I saw some photo series last year about abandoned Detroit that was mezmerising, but seeing it in moving pictures is even more incredible.

Bike Rack in Individual Condo Parking Lot: Good idea?

If you're thinking of using it somehow for a motorcycle, you may want to check with your management company/condo board first. A lot of these sorts of things are highly regulated, and they may have something written into the condo rules that states the bike racks may only be used for...

One of my favourite buildings in the city. I'd love to have a south-facing unit here. Looking for a little more info on what that new site might be, I stumbled on to this as a link on wikipedia. It's a sales brochure apparently. Nice overview of the building, from its construction to the mural...

Forum Issues Since Relaunch (Jan 20, 2010)

Totally agree. I actually like the use of it on the home page, although I'm not sure your advertisers would love the fact that the big box ad space is only visible by scrolling right in a lot of browsers at standard. But when you click on "Forum" and see it again, then have to scroll down to...

    Toronto Toronto | 550 Wellington West and 1 Hotel | ?m | 15s | Freed | a—A

I'm really disappointed in how they've attempted to integrate this into the rest of the building. Or I should say how they HAVEN'T attempted to do it. I keep waiting to walk by and see something change that makes me go "Oh, now I get it" but so far that hasn't happened. Are they seriously...

King West versus St. Lawrence Market

Actually, most of the north facing units have even less of a view, with only an extremely narrow street separating them from another condo. I think the most west units might have a bit of daylight though.

Tower is up now on the north end of the lot.

Seeing all of those biege stucco boxmall behemoths on their site doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Imperial Oil Building - Fascinating History

This is possibly my favourite building in the city. It would probably be a tricky condo conversion, but if it happened I'd probably be sitting out in one of those "1Bloor" kind of lines just to live here. Imagine the view facing south. I used to walk by this every day and wonder why a door was...

    Toronto Toronto | Market Wharf | 110.33m | 33s | Context Development | a—A

Obviously I'm no architect, but I always assumed that building a deep foundation (besides the need for parking) was to help root a tall building in the ground so it is more stable and to reduce shifting. Is this not the case? Will they at least need to drill some holes deeper to root this thing...

    Toronto Toronto | M5V Condominiums | 118.87m | 35s | Lifetime | Core Architects

Yes, especially because such a big deal was made of the environmental considerations put into their building. Tearing a structure down and building something else ten years later is probably not going to happen. And it's not as if every building has to be 30 stories there... just the infill...

    Toronto Toronto | King Blue by Greenland | 155.75m | 48s | Greenland | Arcadis

I believe they're in the process of eliminating dynamic design elements, reducing production costs and adding stucco to make this project bland enough to bring to market. I pray to God I am wrong about this.

While it may provide some stability and hope for the unemployed/underemployed, I doubt most people would consider living in public housing "hitting the jackpot."

550 Wellington West (Freed Developments) - Real Estate -

So I'm guessing this is probably where they'll put the 24-hour diner right? It would look quite classic inside this facade.

    Toronto Toronto | Seventy5 Portland | ?m | 11s | Freed | Core Architects

I saw them putting some sort of flashing on the edges of the balconies yesterday. It was quite warped and cheap looking...hopefully once the whole balcony structures have been put on these will not be as noticeable but it was disappointing to see on an otherwise quite beautiful building.

    Toronto Toronto | Q Loft | ?m | 8s | Royal Queen | TACT Architecture

This is a fantastic presentation document. Too often, there are just a couple of sketches and the architect or developer attempt to cover off a lot of their thinking by talking about what they did. But this document clearly outlines their thinking for making it mesh with the existing...
