Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

The surviving clubs are still packed on Friday and Saturday nights, Vaughan's assertion that young people are tired of clubbing is simply wrong, I wonder where he gets his information. That being said, I think that he's won, unfortunately. Several of the clubs (Cabana and CiRCA are ones that...

    Places to Sprawl

Has anyone seen the sprawl in Clarington (east of Oshawa) lately? Now that is approaching an exurb rather than a simple suburb....why anyone would want to live in such a lifeless place is beyond me, suburban living is the greatest lie of our generation.

    Not a 24 Hour City

The blue night service is actually very good, compared to many other cities (although a 24 hr subway would be best, if it were feasable). Getting to York U by blue night is almost impossible! Heading all the way up Yonge to Finch, and then westboud on finch....not to mention the walk up Keele!

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

I would argue that they both have their role to play, galleries are positive contributors to any neighbourhood but clubs and nightlife are essential to any city. One can argue that the patrons of the ET are all 'suburban twerps' but as I've said before, not everyone likes the gallery/jazz...

    Toronto Toronto | Telus House - 25 York Street | 136.24m | 30s | Menkes | Sweeny &Co

New Telus building @ 25 York Street. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/real-estate/telus-shores-up-city-core/article1400546/ It seems that the construction is done, only the interiors are left to be finished. It's very nice to see some new commercial activity in the 416, hopefully this could...

    Stimulus Funding for Cities

All this stimulus money takes so long to roll out that the recovery might be underway before it gets anywhere. I'm not saying I don't think the money should be spent mind you, the municipalities certainly need the money, I'm just remarking on the irony of it all.

Green Roofs..... Toronto of the future

Not a bad idea, although this council really doesen't have a concentrated environmental plan, they just come out with random policies, would be nice to have real vision for a change.

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

Exactly my point Syn.....Vaughan is singling out a particular type of nightlife establishment. The nightclub as we know it is only 15 to 20 years old, before that people simply went to the bar to drink, not to dance. Why is Vaughan cracking down on young people dancing when there are plenty of...

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

More stareotypes.......I've seen people puking on the sidewalk in front of the Queens Legs Pub on Eglinton West, but there are no calls to tear it down.......Vaughan scores cheap points complaining about young people and music he doesen't like, in the Entertainment District.

The Star: Toronto a suburb? It's begun

This probably won't last too long, the economic situation has brought down ol prices, but they WILL rise, as supply is not growing, but demand is. People and businesses will move back to Toronto as it mecomes too costly to live and operate in wasteland suburbia. In addition, more and more are...

    Tour of Booty

This is absolutely shameful! Don't these men have families.........why do we Torontonians keep electing the same crop of counscillors year after year? Anyone gets complacent if they think that there is no accountability. TERM LIMITS FOR COUNCILLORS!! :)

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

This is exactly what I've been saying all along, to blatantly assume that all young people in the area are violent and/or drunk is a blatant case of discrimination. Vaughan may not like clubs or that style of music, but it's beyond his authority as a politician to force businesses out.

    Toronto Street Food

Just another example of the half measures that this current Council takes. They never follow through with their good ideas, from better street food, to bike lanes in the suburbs to improved transit. Everything needs to be coaxed, it's like pulling teeth.

    TTC York University BRT

I go to York University, and I think that this busway is a terrific idea. The Spadina extension won't be finished until 2015 at the earliest. Finally the 196 can live up to it's "rocket" moniker.

    Kennedy Station

How long is this redevelopment expeted to take (if anyone knows) as the Eglinton Crosstown line isn't slated to begin construction until 2010, or so I've heard.

    Global Financial Centres Index

I would think that since Canada has been praised as having the most stable finincial system in the world, Toronto's star will rise even further. This recession is painful and an awful time for many families, but 3 years from now, when this is all over, Toronto could actually be one of the better...

Toronto's Neighbourhoods, as defined by The Star

I guess some neighbourhoods are too sparsely populated, or don't have character? Although, it's not like Downsview has character, and it gets a name.........

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

With the condo market slowing, won't that prolong the ET at least?

    Transit City Plan

I read in the Star, that construction on the Sheppard East line will begin in September.......and Eglinton Crosstown to start soon after. Does anyone have any specific start dates?

Timothy's on Avenue Rd - Closed

There's a Timothy's at Eglinton and Allen.......always seems busy to me, they're even hiring.
