    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

The writer of this article must have borrowed from another article written over a year ago and did not pay attention to statements made about the Arris project and the sequence of events. The first Arris by Bosa tower has been finished for what ...two years or more? The second tower did not...

I would agree with that assessment. However most of the new purpose built projects under construction or planned are more of the same .. prime locations, higher featured, nicer amenities. There are a handful of affordable housing projects (driven by the city) planned but in terms of total units...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

There are plenty of apartments for rent in Calgary's core and a lot more under construction. This is not a supply issue in my mind. Most of the availability is in the newer, 'amenity rich' buildings that are all asking for above average rental prices. I would say that is where the increase in...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/danielle-smith-treaty-6-sovereignty-act-legislation-1.6685406 Smith is digging herself a bigger hole. I have lost count of the dumb things she has said and then apologized for saying afterwards

Yes, a very confusing and unconvincing argument. Why would The Herald even bother publishing the comment?

At some point in time, Embassy Bosa has some hi-rises planned for this area. They are probably waiting to see if and when the condo market improves otherwise it will be back to purpose rentals.

    Alberta Provincial Politics

The NDP will have to demonstrate how they are going to attract business investment to Alberta and create private sector jobs. That may require further investment in fossil fuel projects as well as other industries. I realize some policies of our current federal government have been the main...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

Well the Sovereignty bill passed the legislature in the wee hours of this morning. Significant change was that the power to change legislation solely by Smith and her cabinet, is now maintained within the legislature. I guess as long as the UCP have a majority they can still manipulate this bill...

All parties have to agree on who is paying for what. It is an absolute certainty that this arena based on original design is going to cost a whole lot more than originally budgeted. Even if everyone agrees on a number to start, there will be cost overruns as construction progresses. Don't be...

    Calgary International Airport

This is a huge plus for Westjet. I believe the only two direct flights overseas from Calgary that Air Canada offers is to London & Frankfurt.

The longer this goes on the more it is going to cost. I can't imagine what the construction costs are now compared to to just a year or two ago.

    Brutalism in Calgary

It could be the most 'brutal' of all however it has been sitting empty and decaying for years. Right now it is a dark, foreboding eyesore. If it is not going to be occupied then take it down.

You beat me to it. I was going to say that the proposed Sovereignty bill has gone over like a lead balloon in most circles. Looks like the only votes Smith is going to win are from her base. In other words, she will gain nothing from it.

My takeaway from these recent articles on the shortage of rental accommodation is that it seems to be primarily about 'affordable rent'. Most of the newly built high rises in the Beltline for example, still have plenty of units available to rent but they probably don't fall into the 'affordable'...

Yeah I think the Riff is supposed to cut diagonally through the center of East Village all the way west to 4 St. Until those middle blocks of land get developed, we are a long way from seeing the Riff finished as it is envisioned.

I thought Fram exited East Village and were looking for a buyer of their remaining properties. Can we assume that is who One Properties acquired it from?

    Canada Men's Soccer

Only in soccer can the storyline be 'we got eliminated but hey ...at least we scored our first goal ever in a World Cup'. 😀 Kind of underscores why I can't get excited about this sport.
