I’m curious about the treatment of the holes in the columns that anchor the climbing platforms. Are the holes patched with concrete or are they left as is? Also... the guys working on the upper floors sure earn their money. I am terrified of heights and wouldn’t last ten minutes up there before...

With the advent of CNC fabricators and 3D printing I expect there will be more texture applied to facades. Could incorporate bas relief imagery along with interesting designs. Stone carvers are long gone but the new technologies could revive an affordable renaissance.

I don’t enjoy criticizing peoples’ work but... I think this building is a real mess. A hodgepodge of details that don’t match and don’t relate to the overall structure of the building. The metals top on the concrete pillars are terrible and why do the pillars taper anyway? The green roof in my...

It looks like tooth decay. Just looking at it makes my teeth hurt.

The third photo from the top of this page reveals a hawk soaring in front of the blue corner RCS. Pretty cool, maybe a good omen?

    How. About Oscar Peterson square?

    Yonge-Dundas Square/Sankofa Square (Brown + Storey Architects)

YDS is a horrible place. I always try to avoid it. I’m 72 and it was always ugly, even before YDS. Now it’s ugly AND awful. It took the city over 10 years to get it built. So now the city jumps in to change the name (Dundas was an abolitionist by the way) as if it contributes in any way to this...

It’s the two tone two color cars that I like. What a relief from the grey suv’s that are everywhere now.

Cumberland Terrace makes a good counterpoint.

I can’t visualize what this block will look like after phase 2 is built. It might look like too much of the same thing?? Kind of overpowering? Can’t really tell from the renderings. By the way, the Frost building is one of my very favourite buildings in TO.

Does any one recall a messy change of ownership that resulted in stalling the groundbreaking of One Bloor East? Or am I hallucinating again?

I don’t much care for any of these proposals. A central theme based on a prominent structure (a fountain, sculpture, etc.) would help. Lacking that, I think a comfortable low key “square” would be fine. Some small sculptures and unique furniture could be included. The proposed themes look forced...

    Allan Gardens Revitalization Plan

Maybe the downtown councillors should pull a Ron DeSantis and offer all squatters free cab rides to North York. Could even throw in a couple hundred dollars. I’m not a fan of DeSantis but his stunt did get lots of attention.

Thanks for replying to my concrete pump question @rbt. Much appreciated.

My apologies if I already asked this in an earlier post. Does anyone know if the concrete pump is able to lift the mix all the way up or if there are several intermediate pumps every few floors that boost the pressure?

    Toronto Toronto | TOOR Hotel / The 203 Residences on Jarvis | 108.2m | 32s | Manga | Arcadis

Too bad the armoury kills the entire block across the street to the south. It would be great if the feds could be persuaded to donate the land to the city. Then CC+A could be commissioned to create a park. The existing park could then be sold or leased for housing. There, I figured it all out.

I’m wondering how they will keep the soil from washing away on a sloped roof. While I’d love to see more greenery downtown (eg, Love Park) it seems like an awful lot of work and expense to get this implemented especially when it will barely be visible from street level. What will be visible...

Gorgeous, Charming! I wish the city had a big box of money to commission CC + A to create another dozen parks throughout the city. Excellent work.

I think this proposal is hideous. Everything about it. Way too dense, huge, overbearing. Silly cascading balconies. It looks like a giant U. I guess U is for ugly. I’m surprised H P is behind this mess.
