Ex-Ontario AG Bryant questioned in death of cyclist

It's interesting to me that you think that everyone will share your view, for some reason. Of course people are objecting to this decision--however, I do notice all the newspapers are reading from the same script though, so I can somewhat see your thought process. Overall, what I object to...

Ex-Ontario AG Bryant questioned in death of cyclist

There is also the question in my mind of the public policy effects of this withdrawal of charges. In my humble opinion, this was not a just decision, and the shield of self-defence rings hollow when you look at the fact that this was a deadly 3,000 pound vehicle versus an unarmed cyclist who...

    Toronto Toronto | Yonge Eglinton Centre | ?m | 37s | RioCan | P + S / IBI

Why not have a mall built in your apartment, too? You could have a bedroom, get up and shop, maybe a shower you have to pay to use--definitely any toilet use is charged ("for customers only"). Why not, right? I hardly think infrastructure counts as public space, really. Especially with...

    Toronto Toronto | Yonge Eglinton Centre | ?m | 37s | RioCan | P + S / IBI

http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/toronto/story.html?id=2659918 Well that's too bad, albeit typical. One of my big complaints about Toronto is the lack of public space, especially in contrast the often draconian private rules. You want to eat in a food court? Only if you buy it...

Spate of Pedestrian Deaths in GTA

Also, how many knew that turning right on an amber/yellow light without stopping is also illegal? Another article related to the topic at hand: http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2010/01/27/f-road-safety-pedestrians-drivers.html There's actually an interesting graphic halfway down the page that...

Spate of Pedestrian Deaths in GTA

The other angle is that when you drive a 4,000 lbs vehicle, there has to be some measure of care and control; car manufacturers brag about all the improvements they have done to braking technology; five-star safety ratings, etc...except if you're hit by one of them! Anyway, at least four of...

Spate of Pedestrian Deaths in GTA

The Star has been following this story quite well: Quite the grim statistic here, too: http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/crime/article/755706--pedestrian-death-toll-rises-to-14-in-the-gta

    Dufferin Street: Eliminating the jog

While biking down home, I noticed that Dufferin north of Steeles has some new construction signs announcing separate bike and transit lanes, but I didn't get a good look because it was dark. Does anyone have more information on this, or pics?

Should Canada allow the option of private health care?

Compare what France and Sweden cover vs OHIP....you'll see quite the difference. Why not focus on fixing that instead?

    Privatization - What should be?

Fannie and Freddie were actually "privatized" in the 70s or 80s...there are lots of articles in The Washington Post on this and their CEOs.

    Licensing Bicycle riders

Even I don't do that! I think I would stop riding my bike if I had to go in the left lane like that. You're a very brave man. IMO, cars are expected to change lanes, but cars do not really expect a bike to change lanes like that. Plus, there is the problem of no brake lights on a bike. I...

Ex-Ontario AG Bryant questioned in death of cyclist

Actually, you can get a Darwin award and be alive. It just means you're taken out of the reproductive pool.S Lots of articles in the papers today. I like this one by Anthony Reinhart: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/toronto/searching-for-a-detente/article1272679/ And Christie...

Ex-Ontario AG Bryant questioned in death of cyclist

I'm thinking that with Canada's more stringent self-defence laws that's a bit of stretch, isn't it? I remember a homeowner who was charged for trying to kill a robber in his own house in the West at some point. Something similar must apply here.

Ex-Ontario AG Bryant questioned in death of cyclist

I'm thinking if someone hit another person, they probably have a license to be hot-headed, especially if they start to drive off. I'm not commenting on this case specifically because there aren't enough details, but consider who's more vulnerable in this type of situation.

    Toronto Transportation Idiosyncracies

Speaking of articulated buses, I'm pretty sure the Viva Van Hools fared pretty well last winter, even on the enormous hills at Clark and Royal Orchard, except for one of the first snow storms last year or the year before where they couldn't get up the hill. Regardless, that was also true of the...
