    General Infill Discussion

I think it's important to add to this discussion that the ward names were not arbitrarily chosen by the City. Indigenous leaders reached out with concerns about the previously proposed names, and an all matriarchal panel ended up being chosen to work on picking the names based on place, theme...

    Lotus Park | 20.2m | 6s | Westrich Pacific | J+S Architect

They are the condo/apartment equivalent of single family home 2 car garages. It's a place to store our crap that we never use for its intended purpose but we feel we desperately need.

    General Food & Dining Thread

Sounds like the roof has hit end of life and isn't worth repairing. I doubt the "redevelopment" has any real plans or money behind it, but I hope I am wrong. With e4c planning to vacate Alex Taylor soon this corner could get very quiet. https://dailyhive.com/edmonton/moth-cafe-edmonton-closure...

    Edmonton music concerts

That's a relief. When driving by it very much looked like it was the aviary. That section of 111 ave has so much potential, but every building needs major work and I'm pretty sure most of them are owned by neglectful landlords.

    Edmonton | Rogers Place | ?m | ?s | Katz Group | HOK

Just a small note that Calgary has an AHL team alongside their NHL and WHL teams. That's atleast an extra 36 nights a year their arena is unavailable for concerts compared to Rogers. I still think we will lose some concerts, but retain the majority. I could also see Calgary's larger...

    Edmonton music concerts

Bad news, it looks like The Aviary has burned. The whole street is blocked off with a big fire and EMS response. Couldn't get a pic though.

    Past Vs Present

I'd never heard of this place. Wanting to learn what the heck this was led me to this video. Quite interesting:

    Town of Jasper Updates

As an ice climber I drive the parkway in the winter multiple times a month. My statement was in reference to international tourists which come in the summer. Outside of some weirdos like me they are not going to be driving to Jasper in the winter from Edmonton either.

    Winter City

It's been pretty clear for awhile that the ice district square will only be enthusiastically activated in ways that OEG can monetize. We were sold a load of BS about it being a great public amenity just so they could secure more of our tax dollars.

    Town of Jasper Updates

The drive from YCC to Jasper is 4:45. The drive from YEG to Jasper is 4:00. For that extra 45 minutes you get the prettiest drive in the world instead of 3 hours of flat trees, much nicer places to stop along the way, and many more flight options. I hate to say it, but for an international...

    Winter City

The ClimbYEG ice wall has now opened. Best ice wall we have achieved yet! Was quite busy today despite it being cold. It's so good to have it up and ready to go well before the world Cup this year!

    O-day’min Park (formerly Warehouse Park)

Ya no, our condo parkade ramp has heated concrete and there is definitely a channel and drain at the bottom. It does indeed require regular maintenance and cleaning and when it gets clogged it's a major issue. When there is a large snowfall it can be quite a large amount of water.

    East Junction | 86m | 25s | Regency Developments | DER + Associates

This right here! Those townhomes were definitely ugly and well past their due date, but they were some of the cheapest rents on the market for very low income families. That had real worth in a city with a waitlist for social housing measured in decades with over 10,000 families on it. There are...

    Edmonton | Boyle Street Community Services | ?m | 2s

Went to the okimaw peyesew kamik (King Thunderbird Centre) open house today. Very impressed with the facility, its clearly much better built to purpose than the old banana warehouse. I took some pictures but took fewer inside than I intended as there were alot of community members around and I...

    Downtown

I have to say, I really appreciated the underground pedway system today. Made it easy to park underground at the Library, walk to the RAM (one of the city's great child friendly spaces), and pop over to the mall for an errand. All with a 1 year old who screams if they have to wear a hat. I know...

    Edmonton | Stantec Tower | 250.84m | 66s | ICE District Prop.

My hypothesis is that Katz's ego thought the tower would be such a resounding success that they would inevitably build a taller one in phase two, so why bother.

    Edmonton Real Estate Market

Paywalled, but I can guess. Likely there are lots of market rate rentals, there is very little at the bottom of the market. The increase in housing costs has not been felt equally at all levels, the cheaper units have all but disappeared. Housing for folks/families making minimum wage, on income...

    Arc Smart Fare System

Wait, does the tap to pay also include using your phone as an arc card? That's what I really want.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Got unlucky with a particularly persnickety driver? Hope it's not some new policy that would shrink capacity.

    Edmonton International Airport (EIA/YEG)

Weird, a bunch of us definitely stood for the whole ride when I took it last in September.
