    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Aesthetics aside, it will be nice to have some of these conversions plugged into the +15 network. And the point about the pattern bearing a resemblance to the profile of that +15 is making me like it slightly more.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I don't get it. Wouldn't it be cheaper to leave the facade as is and just replace windows etc than to spend a bunch of money converting it into something uglier?

Calgary named the most liveable city in North America

For all its challenges, this city is very liveable. When I go to other cities, I do gain a new appreciation for what we have here in Calgary. If you look at the cities at the top of the list, most of the cities are similar in size - ie large but not huge cities - with the exception of...

    Calgary | Yellowstone | 67m | 20s | Amble Ventures | NORR

Boy are we ever! I was in TO in the spring and it was just depressing seeing all the construction cranes vs. the smattering of cranes (mostly for 6 storey wood frame) here. Then again, I suppose the city we are most often compared to, Denver, is also not exactly a hot bed of skyscraper...

    Calgary | Yellowstone | 67m | 20s | Amble Ventures | NORR

A Revised Plans application was submitted for this one with some fairly minor changes. So this appears to be gearing up to move ahead.

    Calgary | Yellowstone | 67m | 20s | Amble Ventures | NORR

That's my fear with just about any demolition these days. So few of the proposals seem to be moving forward right now.

    Crane Count

Springbank Hill - is that the sites right by 17th? I think Truman among others had some applications for midrises in that area.

    Calgary | 1405 - 4th Street | 77m | 24s | GWL | IBI Group

So if that's the case I assume we will be seeing a new design for a taller (or at least larger) tower on this site?

    Calgary | Harmony One | 20m | 6s | Gravity Architecture

It is a huge win to get these projects going along 16th East. That area is so depressing right now.

    Calgary | Trinity Hills | 20m | 6s | Trinity Group

That's a crazy number of units going in there. While it's frustrating that our record population growth isn't helping get any inner city construction going, areas like Medicine Hill, West District and especially University District are unrecognizable from a few years ago.

    Crane Count

So in light of the above, holding steady at 21?

    Crane Count

Crane appears to be coming down at First & Park this morning.

    Calgary | East Riverside Project | 52m | 16s | Bucci Developments | Casola Koppe

Fantastic news! And Bucci is one of those developers that usually builds their stuff!

    Calgary & Alberta Economy

That's impressive that Calgary is considered to be ahead of Ottawa in the rankings. For as long as I can remember Ottawa has been considered a major tech hub. They are lumping in Waterloo as part of Toronto's ecosystem which I consider to be a bit of a stretch.

    Weather and Gardening Discussion

It has been a lousy couple of months weather wise. In fact, March and April were sort of sucky too. I bet we could count the number of days when the temperature hit 20 so far this year on one hand.

    Calgary | 2501 Richmond | 105m | 30s | Minto

Extremely disappointing that they are cutting the number of units in half. What a missed opportunity.

    Calgary International Airport

I was working in the NE industrial area back in 2002, I remember seeing Air Force One landing! And also saw the helicopters heading to K country.

    Calgary | The Baloch | 22.5m | 6s | Abugov Kaspar

Would like to see more of this scale of development along Centre St, Edmonton Trail and even 20th.

    Calgary | West Village Towers | 149.95m | 42s | Cidex Group | NORR Dubai Yahya Jan

I actually quite like the look of the twins on the skyline, even if they are very Dubai-esque. I wouldn't want all our residential towers to be that tacky but they nicely differentiate themselves from all our other tall residential buildings (although I think the 3rd tower will wreck the...
