You can't ignore however that there is a certain contingent who despise her because she is a gay woman. You just have to see some of the really vile things people say about her online. Thankfully this appears to be a vast minority.

Just think the same kind of language used against H. Clinton, and a good chunk of them are men. You got to wonder what happened to civility towards women - even online.

I mean, have we heard of Paul Martin being called the same things as Wynne did? I mean, hide behind online anonymity and lob disgusting names at a woman? That's what men who uphold good sense and traditional values do, apparently.

Do not confuse legitimate criticisms with bad behaviour.

Most of these bigoted comments are coming from evangelicals and homophobic immigrants who are from countries where being openly gay is illegal, and is punished by death.

I don't doubt some immigrants make those comments - but I have a feeling the misogyny isn't restricted to said group (if it makes up the bulk of the nastiness at all, as a matter of guess). Just look south of the border - it sure isn't the immigrants raising a big stink necessarily.

It has nothing to do with her identity.

As you state, it does have a lot to do with the terrible job the Liberals have done, which started before she became premier. The same way that Paul Martin was reduced to Minority and then opposition because of the corruptions of the Liberals before him.

You miss my point. The poll showed that the Liberals would potentially have another majority if they changed leaders. Same platform. Same Hydro situation.

Wynne hasn't done that much in office other than an infrastructure drive and the Sex Ed curriculum. The Hydro mess started way before her, and her government is trying to do what they can to make it less burdensome. Bottom line is, despite some legitimate criticisms, people have an issue with Kathleen Wynne's identity. The vitriol directed against her online (and in the media) is disgusting.

If Brown is really serious about making Sex Ed a non-issue, my respect went up for him 1 or 2 points. Because honestly, f--- social conservatism. We have more important things to worry about than what kids call their genitalia.

Though the question is whether he is, at the end of the day, all that against making sex-ed a non-issue or whether he is in it for the votes - but when push comes to shove should he get into power, being happier to bargain and placate the social conservative wing of the party. Note that if he gets in power, it is his socon MPPs that he will need support from, not his opposition MPPs (because you sure are going to shoot your own party in the foot by asking for those across the aisle to support you, right?)

Niagara West is kind of a "Bible belt." 24% identify as "other" Christian (mostly evangelical sects) and 17% are Dutch Canadians.

Of course, Bible Belt social conservatives are an albatross if the PCs want to win province-wide, however.

There's a good case to be made for "safest Liberal riding in the country" for Ottawa-Vanier. There are by-elections scheduled both federally and provincially. It'll be interesting to see how much better the very popular federal Liberals do than their very unpopular provincial counterparts.

And that's why in terms of points, he's gained 1 or 2 out of a possible 100 with me. I still don't trust that he won't go full "Regressive Conservative" on us if he gets a chance.

More bad news:

Ontario Liberal operatives to face charges over Sudbury bribery scandal

Two Ontario Liberal operatives, including a top adviser to Premier Kathleen Wynne, are facing bribery charges under the province’s Election Act.

Patricia Sorbara and Gerry Lougheed are accused of offering a government job to former Liberal candidate Andrew Olivier in exchange for Mr. Olivier quitting a by-election race in Sudbury last year. The Liberals wanted Mr. Olivier out of the way so Ms. Wynne’s preferred candidate, Glenn Thibeault, could take the nomination unopposed.

Ms. Sorbara is the Ontario Liberal‎ Party’s chief executive officer and campaign director, in charge of overseeing the party’s organizational machinery and running its campaign in the 2018 election. Mr. Lougheed is a Sudbury businessman and Liberal fundraiser.

“This has been a complex and unprecedented investigation for the OPP Anti-Rackets Branch, which has culminated in bribery charges under the Election Act of Ontario,” OPP Commissioner Vince Hawkes said in a statement Tuesday.

It seems like a dreadful choice in the next provincial election. I can't see how anyone could vote Liberal given their mismanagement of energy, our out of control debt (we're now the world's largest sub-sovereign debtor), their general corruption and the fact that the teachers' unions effectively own the party. On the other hand, the PC's have a nutso evangelical fringe, and a significant rural core that really have it in for the GTA. And while the Libs haven't been that great on GTA mobility, it's safe to assume the PC's would be an absolute disaster. Furthermore, the PC's would likely gut the green belt. I suppose there's always the NDP, but their lunch-bucket socialism could do even more harm to the economy than the Libs have managed, and they seem to be absolutely nowhere on GTA transit.

It's not just immigrants. Toronto born Muslims also share the same bigoted and misogynistic views.

A Toronto police Muslim Chaplain tells women to be obedient to their husbands "Wives should also seek permission from her husband before leaving the home because they are the guardians of the marital home, Khan says."
