The future lies within the EU,

The place that can't defend itself without the US and whose core industrial power based their industrial strategy on basically arbitrage between Russian energy and Chinese exports? A place which has basically missed most of the tech boom and is now trying to basically build a regulatory sector based on regulating American tech giants? A place where several countries have attained high GDP by turning their economies into giant washing machines to launder money and avoid taxes? A place with stagnant GDP growth and shrinking and aging populations.

I love Europe. I love their lifestyle. But let's be honest about their flaws. They are absolutely lazy in so many ways. And these flaws are becoming major vulnerabilities going forward. Even the Europeans are openly saying they aren't as competitive as the US. So you might want to temper that enthusiasm.

Fair enough but when bible thumping Republicans get into office spewing conspiracy theories and restricting rights based on that religion where do you think people will go?

Nowhere. We've had a term of Trump already. And the Americans still get most of the best and brightest of the world, including from Europe. Have you seen salaries for skilled workers in Europe? It's becoming literal memes.

The only place that does worse rewarding talent than Canada, is the EU. That's why their most skilled almost always end up in the US. Canada and Europe are good places to be if you lack talent and ambition. If you ever want to do something innovative, there's no place like the US. Or maybe Singapore.

Americans regularly threaten to leave at every election. Very few ever do. I know many people who have said they would move to Canada if Trump won in 2016. They didn”t. They are saying it again now. I highly doubt they will do it this time either.

Meh, being a little lazy is not a bad thing. Not everyone can get obscenely rich, and in America, I would bet that the poorest people there are doing worse than the poorest in most European countries, and we should judge societies on the quality of life of the poorest 2%, not the richest.

As for tech companies, sure, everyone else missed the boom, but honestly, how many years until it all falls apart. AI is going nowhere, there's no more people to sell smart phones to, and the tech companies are going to increasingly transition the free with surveillance products to ever crappier versions with increasing costs. All of us would be in a better position without them.

The draft did a good job of moving Americans to Canada. Perhaps all it takes is the potential risk of personal harm at the hands of their government, this time in a post-RV nation akin to the Handmaid's Tale.

I'm not so sure. If the 'risk of personal harm' was that compelling in the same sense as the draft was, we would see a lot more asylum seekers, persons from 'right to life' states, etc. moving north. Also, the border was a lot mor open back then. Less than half of US citizens have passports. If there is an uptick in that number, it might be telling.

The Viet Nam was and associated draft was different. Sources differ but it is estimated about 400,000 Americans moved north from 1968-1978. Most were the target single male 18-25 group. There isn't great data but it is believed that about 80% of them moved back after the various amnesties.

I’ve resigned myself to a Trump victory. Harris raised a billion $ in campaign financing and still cannot turn the tide.

If only Biden-Harris had taken the migrant invasion seriously from day one - Trump would now have little impactful to campaign on.

Guess they'll go to Europe? They already are.

More talent moved from the US (8,400) during that period to work in European tech than European talent relocated to join the US tech scene (8,300), according to the report.

The reality is that the US is already a laughingstock.

They see themselves as the best, of the best, of the best (SIR!) but in reality they aren't.

The future lies within the EU, not with the US.

The American dream and being something to look up to died in the 1960s with JFK. You got a slight revival with Bill Clinton and Ronald Reagan but beyond that nothing.

They keep electing morons like Trump and the GOP without realizing how bad it looks outside the US.

Think about it. While the rest of the world strengthens gun laws, provides universal healrh care and takes religion out of politics the US does the opposite.

It will take a major incident or political shift to change things but I do hope it happens. Until someone takes an AR-15 and kills the President or major global powers abandon them nothing will.

I hate to say it but unless the US gets their smug, self centered asses majorly handed to them in either a war or politically nothing will change.
The mere presence of a Donald Trump vying and lying for the Presidency, shows how far the vaunted Republic has fallen. Half of the American public wonder what the hell is going on.

Nikki Haley would have smoked Harris. Especially if she chose a non-MAGA running mate like Paul Ryan (WI-retired), Bill Cassidy (LA) or Todd Young (IN).

I expect Haley to come out swinging in 2028 as the sane and safe change GOP candidate after eight years of Democrats in the White House.
