I highly doubt it. A big part of his appeal was his Calgary roots, which he is very proud of, and the hope that he could pull more votes from that city. He’s mostly likely to run in the Northeast Calgary riding where he grew up.^Nenshi likely to run in that riding.
The problem is most of the Calgary NDP MLAs are new. Usually it is a long serving MLA who steps down to make way for a new leader to run in a fairly safe seat that doesn't have to close to where the new leader lives or eventually want to run. Oh, wait a minute - doesn't this sound a lot like what just happened?I am not speculating. This is already well known in political circles which is why I'm sharing. It's why Rachel stepped down, and it gets him in the legislature. Next election in 2 years he can run in Calgary.

In a year-end interview for The Tyee last week, Nenshi talked openly about running in the capital city: “I’m certainly willing to look at Edmonton, because I split my time between the two cities, and quite frankly, I think it’d be good for me to learn more about Edmonton.”

Need an NDP win.Let's see how the NDP fares in Lethbridge West
Lethbridge-West byelection first true test of Nenshi leadership, expert says
Wednesday’s byelection in Lethbridge-West will act as a litmus test for the Alberta NDP’s new leader, a political scientist estimates. The vote will fill a vacancy created this summer when the NDP’s Shannon Phillips resigned. Phillips held Lethbridge-West since 2015, winning it again last year...edmonton.citynews.ca
