There are a lot of feel good platitudes targeted at more extreme UCP members, but it is essentially meaningless.
For instance, law abiding Albertans can own guns, but many of the laws related to this are Federal and even if Smith doesn't like or respect them, they are still laws.

Yes, there is some pressure on her, but I feel to some degree putting it that way is spin. Smith consistently feels most comfortable governing and appealing to this crowd. She just has an excuse to do that now.From Braid:

Yes, that's part of it but they do know that Federal law over rides provincial, don't they? Or are they just trying to pull the wool over their supporters eyes?

It's trying to address some Albertans' deep seated anxiety over the fact that we aren't the USA. These are the same folks who tried to argue in court that The First Amendment protected their right to protest in the convoy....

Let's be honest...this is all just pandering to her TBA base so she can keep her leadership status with the party going forward. Guarantee David Parker has told every one of his buddies to sign up for this leadership review and vote to keep her in.

Very close. I would say this is all an excuse for pandering to her TBA base. Let's be honest, Smith is not some sort of moderate being reluctantly forced to do these things but that will be their spin after the leadership vote.
