Can they please just get rid of the annoying and useless tap off feature and stop making people pay a flat fee which discourages people from getting cards?

You don't need to tap off unless you're on a bus that leaves a city for the commuter fare. Since I now exclusively ride ETS, I never tap off.

Not that they ever check fares anyway..

Tapping off is too much of a hassle for me when I'm exiting a crowded bus in the morning. I see no upside. I've never been over (or under) charged fare because of it, either.

Tap off doesn’t matter within the city for fares.
Although if you’re a fan of the city making data informed decisions, you might see tapping off as a helpful way to provide data on trip starts/ends.
Nonetheless, it’s confusing how they’ve communicated (in guessing maybe because they don’t want to say you have to tap off, but they also don’t want you not to haha)

Have you tap the card/ phone you paid with on a handheld validator, just like they do with an Arc card.I wonder how they will do fare checks with the open payment system?

They will encourage us to tap off to be in that habit and I do tap off whenever possible although if the validator is broken I don't fret, but you absolutely don't need to tap off unless it'll save you money, ie. you're on a commuter bus but don't cross municipal borders.

I was under the impression that the original arc validators would have this capability but these look better anyways

The old validators were getting a lot faster but man the new ones are practically instant.

Used the new validators today, such an improvement.
However, the validators at Stadium Station are STILL only in the middle of the platform. So if you are running to catch a train you either run to the middle of the platform and hope it doesn't leave or get on the train without paying. What idiot decided on that placement?!

Yes, from the North End the first validator is almost at the middle.
