I'm normally not a fan of spandrel glass, but the black and white contrast could work well. As long as it's not the baby blue/teal that seems to litter so many new condos in Canada.

I went back and took a few more of 6th and Tenth, as the lighting wasn't great in the last set and I wanted to see what the spandrel and panels looked like in sunny light. I'm happier with the look of the colors in regular light. The black and white will be a strong contrast.

Project Update:
The Toronto development team of Lamb Development Corp and Fortress Real Developments are building a new 31-storey addition to Calgary's Beltline district, which has begun cladding installation. 6th and Tenth will contain about 230 one-bedroom to two-bedroom plus den units ranging from 450 to 1,950 square feet. Starting from the low $200,000s CAD, the more expensive layouts are expected to fetch $1 million and above.

Looks like a somewhat better finished version of WAM.

In general though, Im not that crazy about all these new residential towers with this spandrel-puzzle facades. I'm not sure why it's such a hot trend right now (cost?) but it comes across kind of chintzy and needlessly complicated.

Thanks Surreal, always appreciated.

Next floor of cladding will start the (hopefully) brickwork!

The hotel across the way is also that pixelated look. Same with Mark on 10th

My prediction, Tenth avenue will be renamed to Tetris avenue!

Cost is probably a factor. I'm assuming spandrel must be cheaper than aluminium panels, or at least cheaper and less complicated than doing both spandrel and panels. I'm not a big fan of the general mix mashed look that's going. IMO 6th and tenth is the best of that look though.

The pixelated look may actually stop from the fifth floor up. We will know soon enough!

@crisp Yup, the real look of the building will kick in from the 5th floor and up. We'll get a better sense of how it will look.

@BKha, it does seem like most buildings are either aluminum paneling, or spandrel, not both. We've seen a combo of EIFS and spandrel though (Mark on 10th, Alura)

So they aren't putting any brick up...

Pretty pissed but feel like I knew all along, too many changes from the renders.

Doesn't look like any brick will be going up. Glass and spandrel. I think the spandrel looks pretty good, better than the pictures justify as the lighting was really bad when I took the pics. I curious to see a few more floors from 6th on up get completed....I have a feeling the black paneling will look good.
