Where do they typically announce new services? Is it just press releases or do they maintain a route list?
I usually go to Aviationweek and search Calgary and it will have all the new news. Most of the time I see it on here before I get a chance to go to aviation week.
The other area that’s pretty good sometimes believe it or not is SSP. The airport thread is the only thread that’s still alive but there is often some good information in that thread. The only downside is it’s SSP and you still get a fair amount of bickering and sniping.

Aeroroutes is what I use, it’s usually super quick with updates. There’s also a handful of Instagram and X accounts that are quick to the punch too.

Most airlines and Westjet usually announce their new summer routes in the late winter early spring, but realistically it could be any time.

WestJet has already been requesting slots for new routes from YYC, from our colleagues on SSP they requested slots to operate YYC-Lisbon, Portugal but as of right now they haven't been allocated any, I'm not sure If they been denied or just haven't been given any yet, but from what I understand from Nav Portugals website is that the response deadline for if they get slots or not is December 15th (I think?).

Other potential routes could include places like Athens

Not Calgary related but that YYT - London route was surprising, I don't know when's the last time St. Johns had transatlantic flights

YYC October Stats:

Domestic:
1,142,144 +10% (2019: 1,046,834)
Transborder: 342,218 +33% (2019: 289,301)
International: 167,773 +40% (2019: 117,017)

October Total: 1,634,135 +16.4% (2019 total = 1,453,152)

2023 YTD: 15,737,861 +31.2%

For 2023 23 should poke around 18.2 million to 18.5 million depending on November and December, November is traditionally one of the slower months in the year but we should beat our 2019 record nonetheless.

Going to be a kick ass year. If Nov/Dec have even the same numbers as 2019, we would still come in at 18,469,014. Talk about smashing a record.

It seems that the numbers rise dramatically over 2019 once the new flights to Europe started in the spring. The feed they had from the US and domestically definitely had something to do with the rise in numbers. We’ll see how the numbers compare now that most of the WS Europe/Asia flights are done for the season.
