FYI, Executive Committee voted last week to extend Chinatown's vibrancy money, $480,000/year for 2025 and 2026. It is coming out of the existing Downtown Vibrancy budget.

A little over a year after reopening, the Italian Bakery will be closing... Continuing the never ending streak of bad news for Chinatown.

Today we close the chapter on an era.
Today we say goodbye to our Downtown 97st store.
It wasn’t an easy decision, but sadly the one that had to be made.
We want to thank all our customers that have come to support us since our re opening & hope to continue to see you at our Beverly store.

Thank you for 64 years.

"90% of the businesses have to have their doors locked...How do you sustain a business when your doors are locked?"

Regrettable to see it close, but when I go down to Hong Kong Bakery the amount of street persons is quite high and would turn most regular citizens off.

Thanh Thanh ơn 101st/107 for some lemongrass beef and special vermicelli bowl. Delish.

I've noticed so much in that whole area. Chinatown could be quite nice and vibrant but there needs to be a massive attitude change regarding police enforcement in the area.

EPS needs to stop treating Chinatown as a drop and containment zone for people they don't like. Remember when businesses asked for more policing and it led to them dropping off an ex-con that killed two people?

At the same time, Chinatown Business Association needs to get on board Neighbourhood Renewal. This means stopping its fight against the City renewal of 97 Street and co-funding a new Capital Line LRT station at 95 Street.
