Your added images are a wonderful addition to the Toronto Fire story, charioteer.
I had no idea that the fire came so close to Yonge St.
We almost lost "The Hockey Hall of Fame"!

Interesting to see the Bank of Montreal building at Front and Yonge that preceded the "Hockey Hall of Fame" building they built a few years later.

On the NE corner of Yonge and Front (pre-Board of Trade Building), the American Hotel:

1875 (the hoarding on the right is probably for the Customs House under construction):

Absolutely wonderful images, especially this one.
I've attempted to sharpen it a little:

Gene Autry at Sick Kids, late 50's:
geneautry.jpg

My aunt told me a story about her boyfriend taking her to a show Gene did at Maple Leaf Gardens. He encouraged the audience to join him in singing RUDOLPH THE RED-NOSED REINDEER ( This was in February! ).

He suddenly stopped the song telling the audience to sing louder, suggesting they would be less shy if the lights were out. He then called for the lights to be turned out. When that didn't happen he drew his gun and shot them out ( with

blanks, I assume ).

He then said: "All you boys who brought your girlfriends can leave me a quarter at the box-office when you leave"—and after that the Gardens went wild with their singing!
