I believe that would be looking south on McCaul St. TOWARDS Queen St.

Was that a legitimate theatre or burlesque/vaudeville of some sort? The dancing girl image would suggest burlesque but it all seems rather grand for that.

Also, can anyone explain the Disney sign in the Yonge pic above?
 
And from that same BlogTO link, I was intrigued by a couple of things here: (a) the Lumsden Building was already cornice-free, and (b) the Victoria Tower (oh so briefly Toronto's tallest in the late 20s) looks an awful lot like like 1940s US public housing here...

Since nothing besides a balloon was capable of flying back then, I am going to go with first flight as opposed to first balloon flight.
