Yes, although it was not the Governor General who made this decision, as it was a provincial legislature. It was the Lieutenant Governor of BC.

Also, the seat count between the the party with the most and the second one was very close, only two seats difference. While that is not the only factor, practically it would be harder for an opposition party further behind to get enough support.

Interesting watching Trudeau and the MSM go into convulsions over some silly tweets by Donald Trump. Trump is obnoxious, loves to be the showman and knows how to use social media effectively. Do people seriously think Trump is going to "take over" Canada, Greenland and Panama? Trudeau is a trust fund halfwit who has had everything gifted to him and is used to using his name and looks to get by. Trump honed his negotiation skills in arguably the most competitive and cut-throat business environment in the world - Manhattan. Trudeau surrounds himself with mediocre woke sycophants like Melanie Joile, Freeland, Gibeault, Sean Fraser, Marc Miller, O'Regan, Another Randy - the only exceptional cabinet ministers he had (Mourneau and Phillipot) quit when they realized who and what they were dealing with. Trump surrounds himself with much more capable people - he knows the importance of this and he listens to his people. Trump and Musk know that the AI war between China and the USA is a crucial geo-political / economic conflict and China has the upper hand due to the Dems hesitance to confront China's ambitions. China's "Belt and Road" initiative is a form of economic imperialism that has been going on for decades - funny the western MSM never mention it. The Belt and Road plan has enabled China to basically invade many weak countries in Africa, and parts of Asia to control precious minerals and other resources they need to dominate AI and Tech based innovation in the future. I think Trump sees the need for the USA to have substantial influence in Greenland, Canada and Panama in order to maintain global hegemony over tech / AI / innovation because this is the future. Greenland has substantial reserves of precious minerals, Canada has energy and Panama (and its canal) is already getting too much Chinese influence. The USA of course won't bully their way like the Belt and Road Chinese government, but I'm sure they will create a tighter union between the areas I've mentioned. Of course "educated" MSM media types like Andrew Coyne will never mention this and say Trump wants to invade Canada. Its amazing how weak Canada has become that a few tweets and tariff threats from an obnoxious President can do such damage - the Chinese also saw this weakness when they infiltrated our government and in February 2023, CSIS concluded that the Chinese government interfered in the 2019 and 2021 elections. In May 2024, an official probe by parliament's Foreign Interference Commission found that China interfered in both elections. The Chinese government has been trying to de-stabilize western democracies it see's as a threat to its plans for more global power. China imports fentanyl in large quantities into Vancouver which finds it's way into the USA - look at the destruction the drug epidemic has caused in North America. Why doesn't the MSM spend more time discussing the threat of China?

I literally can't get any proper discourse online about the policies of the CCP without it getting into straight up "oriental fever" racism a lot of the time, wtf are you on?

Time and time again the lack of understanding what China's aims and what it does strikes again. You don't need "supposed" Chinese interference to have Western democracies shoot themselves in the foot from their own decisions.

Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc not seeking Liberal Party leadership​

In a statement, the New Brunswick MP said he is touched by support he received but said Canada is at "a critical juncture in its relationship" with the U.S., and said he believes he can better serve the country by working to stop president-elect Donald Trump from imposing steep tariffs on Canadian goods.

Cabinet colleagues Innovation Minister François-Philippe Champagne and Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson have told CBC they're considering a bid.

Former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney has also said he is mulling a campaign.

Sources said former finance minister Chrystia Freeland, whose abrupt resignation last month likely hastened Trudeau's decision, has been making calls.

In my personal opinion, Champagne is the smart choice. The Liberals still have decent support in Quebec.

In my personal opinion, Champagne is the smart choice. The Liberals still have decent support in Quebec.

Champagne would be a good choice, but the Liberals have a long tradition of alternating French and English leaders, so I suspect that will lead to them picking someone not from Quebec this time.

Not having LeBlanc run who was respected in caucus and also has a French background (but not from Quebec) may help Freeland, but it could also open up the field more.
