Out of curiosity, are there current provisions in place with the construction of the Finch West LRT @ Finch West station that allows for the easy eastward extension to Finch Station? (ie: So there arent any magical discoveries that create a forced transfer situation like we're seeing with the Eglinton Crosstown at Kennedy)

Mx's answer to this question seems like a yes.........

Speed: BRT could be faster on a lower ridership line, but the 36 is overcrowded, and runs at 11 buses per minute. Increasing frequencies will lead to bunching due to traffic lights, and TSP works worse at 4 minute frequencies because the density of buses, and the fact that you need to let cross traffic through at some point.

Comfort: Depends on the rider and what they prefer.

Capacity: Unless you build high-quality BRT, you won't get the necessary capacity (see: speed), and at that point you might as well build LRT.

Urban development: Development should be able to to happen anywhere, but realistically, LRT has a better chance. This shouldn't be the first argument for a line, unless it's cheap, already has units U/C, or a developer is paying for part of it.

Environmentally friendly: Debatable.

Not a bad idea, but there would be some challenges too:

2) The Finch corridor doesn't really serve Rexdale or Humber College; it diverts south-west soon after the Hwy401 crossing.

As a rapid service, I dont think it needs to go out to Humber/Rexdale, thats what the Finch LRT is for. Density drops off as you go west anyways. The routing of the hydro corridor basically almost directly to Pearson is too perfect of a destination.

Have you asked Hydro One if you can use the ROW for your prefect route??? Unless things change, the answer will be "NO" as they want it for their use and future needs. Again, other than speed, what good is it if people can't get to it by transit without going out of their way to do so???

Just because there is less density for that area now doesn't mean there will be more in the future with the line kick starting it.

I wouldn't call it a problem. LRTs in Calgary and Edmonton play the role of TTC subways, linking the remote suburbs to the centre. To be effective at that, they need to be fast and operate with a wide stop spacing.

Finch West is a more local route, not going all the way from Rexdale to downtown, but just linking Rexdale and Humber College to the closest subway station. For that purpose, the chosen route design is probably fine.
The "LRT" in Calgary and Edmonton that currently operate look basically nothing like what we have built in TO
