Agreed. I always look for smallspy posts in the transit section of this site. It's great to hear from experts...frankly on any topic.

(Especially in the era of RFK as "health secretary", and Matt Gaetz as f**king AG. Stuff is going get weird, wrong, and dangerous quickly.)
also a fox host as the secretary of defence and a mistress as his homeland secretary. i digress😅

I'll have to read up on the contracts I have access to, I would be suprised if the TTC isn't mentioned as an important stakeholder. I'm not privy to the details of the lawsuit though so its probably something I'm not thinking of.
You'd think that would be the case. You have to remember, these contracts are at least a decade-old, and date from a period where Metrolinx's legal and contracting abilities were beyond incompetent. Remember when they tried to cancel about half of the Bombardier Flexity order, and thought they could simply claim they were forced to do this because (then) Bombardier was behind schedule, so Metrolinx wouldn't have to pay penalties. Which resulted in litigation, and the court ordering 9-digit penalties, eviscerating Metrolinx in the ruling? Gee I'm so glad that they had Alstom build the 18 cars for this line - when there's 380 Flexities for the GTA and Edmonton - and still would have been time to build the 18 cars for this line (I'm sure they could have found a way to add another 8-metres to the existing 40-metre long design - they've extended the European version out to 45-metre for Dresden).

We should probably go to the "Donald Trump's 'merica" thread - but there's no way in the world that even a Republican Senate will ratify these two - not to mention known Russian-asset Tulsi Gabbard as intelligence director).

I don't know what the endgame here is - but it's clearly not to have these people in the room. I can see someone in the Trump camp saying "what do we do with RFK now - he's a problem; hey, let's give him what he wants, and make the Senate do the dirty work". Or perhaps this is part of some negotiating tactic with the Senate leadership to trade for something Trump really wants - like $300 billion for internment camps to house 10 million people. There's a long history in the USA of a handful of members in Congress holding the administration (of their own party!) hostage, for something or another; recall that Gaetz himself pulled that stunt only 12 months ago to out a Republican speaker!

Didn't know this was the Finch LRT and irrelevant politics thread.
The 9-digit penalties paid to Bombardier by Metrolinx was all about Bombardier's alleged (but ultimate rejected) inability to have the Finch West cars available and Metrolinx's gross incompetent inabilty to write contract. (I still wonder if someone in Metrolinx was getting the kick-backs from Alstom; because nothing else rationally explains that one).

But yes - we should move the foreign stuff to the thread I linked above.

Took a drive along Finch today and far from completion and substantial completion stage other than the ROW.

Lots of work taking place with close bike lanes to the point, only a single lane of traffic between Weston Rd and Arrow Rd for both direction. Sign said use alter route going eastbound and it took me 15+ minutes to go that one block. Westbound traffic was backup from Arrow to the 400.

Finally saw my first LRV on Finch to the point there were two parked at stations at either end of the line. The one I go close up shots of it had both ends with red lights on.

There was a crew working on the the westbound retraining wall at the Keele Portal as well installing railing on it.

Since Line 5 cars are number 6200? or so and Finch is 6500, it will be interesting to see where ML will put Hurontario number at as well Hamilton. Hurontario is getting 27 out of the plan 44 and expect it will get its own series for numbers. Even though Finch has 18 at this time, those numbers will go higher over time as the line is expanded to the airport and putting the extra cars in the 6500 series.

No service this year

No videos of the trip.

I have noticed lots of kids from the adjacent school walking along the portal curb so it's probably a safety alteration.

Most of the road work is done except for that area around weston and the rail overpass so i expect a lot of activity there in the coming weeks.

Every time I drive along finch I see contractors at the stations or paid duty police closing parts of the intersection

Sooooooooo, anyone have an update? Will this be another case of "we'll let you know 3 months before it opens"?
The line is like 99.9% complete - why don't we have an opening date?

No track work today that I could see, and a few trains out testing west of the MSF. Road work appears mostly complete outside of the area between weston and signet.
