Vogue actually turned out better than I expected, they could improve the way they light up the roof, but still not bad. I'm glad all our condo towers don't look the same like they do in Vancouver.
Yeah, I'm fine with the look of the west end. There's a fair bit of diversity there, in shapes and sizes. A couple of buildings with more glass wouldn't hurt.

Here's one I've seen for a while, but wasn't able to find a render until today. There's a new affordable housing project under way near the corner of Bow Trail and 38th Street SW. Wildwood Affordable Housing Development is the name. It's on a pretty neglected site that hasn't had a lot of luck over the years (a crummy little autoparts store, a liquor store, a jeweler, many years of dereliction), so I think this is probably going to be a step up.

Much like Vancouver's West End, my assessment of that area will always be buoyed by the waterfront park access. It's the circle of life: Great park access in high-density zoning close to transit and employment --> high land value --> neighbourhood character gutted like a fish and replaced with condos --> increased neighbourhood population --> new retail to serve population --> (hopefully) better community ownership and advocacy --> streetscape and programming improvements --> rejuvenated character. Patience. I noticed the pathway improvements in the West End are underway. Is 8th st still on the table?
I haven't heard anything for a while. That underpass reno has made quite a different to the whole feel of 8th street from Beltline down into Eau Claire

Nice find Oddball. I'm always happy to see more of this go up, and the site it's going up on makes it even better.

Planning Commission next week:
https://www.calgary.ca/PDA/pd/Docum...commission/agenda/2017/agenda-cpc-july-27.pdf

I already spoke about the medical clinic at 14th Street and 29th Ave SW in its own thread. Other items are:
Rocky Ridge TOD zoning is recommended for approval (Item 5.04, page 195/467)
https://developmentmap.calgary.ca/#property/LOC2015-0073

New prison in the NW, next to the existing one (Item 5.08, page 273/467)
https://developmentmap.calgary.ca/#property/LOC2017-0131
https://developmentmap.calgary.ca/#property/DP2017-1416

Truman's project on 17th Ave and 29th Street SW has its land use (Item 5.15, page 411.467) (DP drawings on page 427)
https://developmentmap.calgary.ca/#property/LOC2016-0292

West 17th is an excellent proposal. It'll easily be Truman's crowning achievement once it's built. Hopefully it'll be the beginning of their foray into the high-rise game. I'm liking their work a lot.
