I guess Dion would rather prop up Harper some more than be in a coalition with those icky Dippers...but given his pathetic role as "Leader of the Opposition" (sic.), what do you expect?

The NDP says they are above and beyond the other parties in playing political games yet they play some of the dirtiest politics on the hill.
I do not find anything wrong with playing such politics but people actually believe the NDP are the only party that are actually for the people and that they do not play political games.

I think they lost most of their credibility on that front with their play to keep May out of the debates. It looked really bad on them.

Lets not forget the say they are the party that will stop Harper and then helped kick out the Liberals in 2006 to gain more seats...

After studying the election some more, I think this year's spolier is really the Green party of Canada. The Greens of Canada really have no reason to exist, they are a 3rd rail of both the NDP and Liberals.
Canada can successfully create a majority government with a Liberal-NDP coalition if necessary, or a minority government with cooperation with Liberals, NDP, and the Bloc on an issue-by-issue basis.
BUT, the Greens are truly the enemy this year. They have a less green policy than both the NDP and Liberals these days, and their more moderate economic policies are identical to the Liberals for all intents. There's no reason for anyone to waste a vote on the Canadian Greens.

As a soft Dipper, I am glad to see that the NDP has not been too affected by the Green's increase in popularity, but you are right - they have made enough of a dent to hurt both the centrist Liberals and the centre-left NDP. I've never been a big fan, especially since they are not all that eco-friendly, they are the closest Canada has to a mainstream libertarian party, but wrapped in a green coat. I think the one reason they do well because a lot of people don't know what they are really about, they're attracted by the supposed environmental focus, and the novelty of a newer party that hasn't been in power.

Well Canada doesn't need novelty, it needs leadership. And Harper is the wrong kind of leadership so people who support the Greens need to wake up.

Not everyone buys the ABC movement. I might vote green this election because they have policies I like (income splitting for one...no other party has that on the table)
I happen to believe that democracy should not be a cynical alarmist exercise about stopping one party from gaining power. Voting for the party you prefer, let's the government know where the electorate is as a whole and what policies they like. And hey, if things don't turn out like you want, there's always the next election.

Hey Keith, here a constitutional problem that came to my mind recently...
In Canada if two parties get 120 seats (240 seats) and the other two parties get 35 each (remaining 70 seats)?
What happens....
I assume no result and the Governor General would have to do something unexpected like intervening and forcing an election?
