I am confused. Are the photos from today or weeks ago? If from today, how much track do they still have to finish? I though all the track was finished....
Today.

The 3rd photo shows how much still has to be done just for the base, with the rail behind me. The 2nd photo show about 20' of missing rail from where it ends in photo 1 that has a base in place.

Maybe by April, all the track will be in place as I give up trying to see a timeframe. This is the day team that seems to become a night team as they are real slow on this project.

Should be helped along by warm above 0°C weather. Unless there is heavy rain.
Been like this for months and the extra few days above zero not going to do much. More like lack of manpower to do the work.

There is a fair bit of infrastructure to be place in the ROW first before doing the base. They are doing a wide base for everything than the track only. This area is a bit of swamp land and need more drainage and support.

Only have to look back in the threads at my photos to see how long it's been this way.

Wasn't prepared to see tracks at Parkside, but guess with the area requiring less work was best place to start first.

They are supposed to add traffic signals at The Queensway and Sunnyside Avenue intersection. They should have the westbound traffic stop at the turn INTO the loop, activated by the track switch.

Will only happen if the city gives public transit a higher priority over the almighty single-occupant auto. So unlikely with the current mayor or deputy mayor.

They have the road strip for the traffic light already, but see no footings for the poles for the lights. Will not help cars trying to get into Sunnyside loop like today. Coming out of the loop is no problem

Need to have a light before the loop that is trip when the streetcar hits x spot as it near the loop. Downside to this is it will stop traffic when the car is going to Humber that will tick drivers off.

Will the 504 King Streetcar finally run west of Dufferin in May??

Besides the platform upgrades noted by @DSC there's also the wiring which they seem to have finally decided to upgrade, as opposed to sometime during the past 2 years when they could have done it west of Dufferin, and last year during the Shaw intersection work when the Dufferin to Bathurst section wasn't being used by streetcars.

They've made a lot of progress between Bathurst and Douro as it appears done but for reconnecting the feeders. They've also been working west of Dufferin, but there's several small spots along the route to be done but the largest chunks of work are the curve west of Dowling and the Roncesvalles Yard North Gate. In both those locations all the former overhead has been taken down and has yet to be replaced.

The curve was gone on my last visited and starting to string the support wires across the road, Most of it to all of it should be strung now by right. Dowling going east still needs to be done from what I saw in Feb.

By right, TTC has sat on the King as well Roncesvalles OS as well the platform far too long to the point it should had been completed in 2022, not the last minute rush.

Mr Bus CEO loves seeing buses in place of streetcars.

This post really needs to be corrected. They meant March 14 to March 25 NOT May.

As the following changes are happening:

504/304 King
• Overhead upgrades - Pantograph overhead installation
• Service adjustments
Pantograph overhead installation between Bathurst Street and King-Queen-Roncesvalles intersection will be completed. Streetcar service will operate on Pantograph between Dufferin Street and Shaw Street, which has the following benefits:
• More efficient heating and air conditioning system;
• Better vehicle performance;
• Fewer delays caused by disconnections from overhead wire

Streetcar service will be removed east of Bathurst Street, due to the start of overhead upgrade work on King Street between Bathurst Street and Queen Street East.

504 streetcar service will operate primarily on Queen Street, from Dufferin Gate Loop to Broadview Station via Dufferin Street, King Street West, Shaw Street, Queen Street and Broadview Avenue.

Replacement buses will operate via King Street:

• 504C from Dundas West Station to Distillery (Front/Cherry)
• 504D from Strachan Avenue to Broadview Avenue at Gerrard Street East

504 King buses and streetcars will continue to arrive every 10 minutes or sooner.

Interesting given that that area is already pantograph compatible as 510 & 511 have long used King to enter service and they leave the yard with pantos up. I wonder if this is just so they can stagger the wire, but not sure why a shutdown is needed for something like that.

It is a bit puzzling but the new overhead is not only the new wires but the move to new (or more powerful) power sources so THAT may be what is still to be done. We also do not know if they are talking of a one week, one month or one year suspension of streetcars on King from Bathurst to the Don River - the heart of the route! EDIT: It may also be making the overhead pantos ONLY (the wires need to be staggered) - if it's this I cannot see why it needs a complete shut-down as they could surely do it overnight, block by block?

My understanding is that more power to the cars is mostly enabled by the change to 4/0 gauge contact wire and that the trolley pole can pull down just as much as the panto. Telling the wire gauge from street level is sadly not within my powers of observation. Swapping out the contact wire would explain why they would suspend service.

Thinking about it, the comms people likely just treat any upgrade as a "pantograph compatibility" project even though wire gauge doesn't have anything to do with whether overhead is "pantograph compatible".

Yeah, no timeline on that is annoying.
