I think that an Ellesmere/York Mills/Wilson BRT is a much better idea than the Lawrence LRT. It's the one in dark blue, feel free to ignore everything else.

Yes, it is a good idea. Might even be extended further west, along Albion Road.

There could be width issues around Yonge, where York Mills / Wilson crosses West Don river and area is hilly; and also between Yonge and Wilson Heights. BRT buses might have to either run in mixed traffic for 4 km, or divert via 401. Otherwise, no major obstacles to my knowledge.

Regarding the Lawrence / Dixon route, a Crosstown might be too difficult to build, but a separate Lawrence West LRT may be considered at some point to relieve pressure on the western leg of Eglinton LRT. Of course, such pressure can materialize only after Eglinton is extended to the airport.
 
Personally I think both should have rapid transit, whether it be LRT or BRT, as long as it's separated from traffic.
