Ice plant, Zambo and O&M... which had a proposal from the local business community (one group in particular if I recall) to make it happen once the province indicated they were not going to proceed.

Alas.

I like what has been done with the grounds, but I agree it would be nice to turn have something added so it could be used in more seasons.

The rink had a count of 0 people on it last night... this city confuses me so.
The one behind the leg? To be fair the signage to find it isn't really that good, and it's hidden from the plaza and wading pool areas. I worked there for a while and didn't even know about the rink at first. The province should at least invest in better wayfinding.

100% Not saying this is the reason the grounds were so empty, but good signage and wayfinding is an underrated part of well-designed public spaces. People like to know where they're going, how far it is/how long it will take to get there, what there is to see/do, and be able to easily make their way back. People won't venture far and will not stay as long without that information. I hope this was considered with the new warehouse park.

Maybe we need that skating rink that was planned for the plaza. That said, too many people it seems don't walk - much.
Week day evening in early January, when everyone tends to hunker down after the Christmas holidays, although it was a very nice evening weather wise to go out.

Critical mass is needed for people to be comfortable in public spaces. I often simply go for walks with friends downtown with a coffee instead of staying inside of the shop. It’s amazing how few people are often out and how different it makes you feel vs your typical block in Van/Tor.

Its a very nice space, but it seems to me there is little active programing to encourage use of it, except for maybe the occasional political demonstrations.

I took a walk around the Legislature after work today. Unlike the main downtown streets that were packed with pedestrians, the Legislature grounds were very quiet apart from the occasional health nut and the odd tourist here and there.

Anyway - I couldn't leave without taking pics of the awesome scenery.

It's just a very pleasant place to walk daytime or night and yet is very quiet relatively speaking and points to the need to double or triple our Downtown population ASAP.

Agreed, the problem is aside from the walk I think there’s just not enough activation. Some sort of cafe setup, a place to grab a treat, something unique that draws people there aside from a nice walk.
