Don't know why you'd think the Province would do that,

From my reading these funds would be new projects so new busses could be a possibility, alas the city doesn't have a great track record with O&M

Feds won't pay for the whole thing but they will pony up a 3rd along with the city. They haven't said no before to Fed money. Have they?

what's the problem, city's currently are there at the will of the province, that way no "special" deals for certain liberal mayors who blindy support attacking the province on orders from Ottawa. Equality eh?

Our version of Melbourne's level crossing removal project is the $1.1B Yellowhead Trail freeway conversion project. Maybe after a few decades we will have Edmonton's level crossing removal project, too.

Interesting. Not a critique of only us, but if the shoe fits. I feel Edmontonians could easily list several level crossings they want eliminated so this would be popular with vehicle users as well as transit users.

It is something to consider seriously once the current west LRT line expansion is completed.
 
At this point the rebuild would feel something like a mild roller coaster. A couple of points -- Melbourne is roughly 4 times the population of Edmonton and freezing winter weather is non-existent. I don't think eliminating all level crossings will ever be in the cards but there certainly are some that should have already been included in a smarter scheme -- e.g. Bonnie Doon.

Personally the most annoying crossings for me on the Capital line are:
95 street and 105 avenue - please extend the tunnel. The train has to come out and enter quite slowly because of pedestrians cutting around.
84 street and 112 avenue & 82 street and 113 avenue - very hard to do probably have to go under.
51 Ave and 111 street.- Elevate the track and the station and give it a direct connection to the mall.

And on the metro line: Princess Elizabeth and 106 ave, This really should have been tunneled.
 
My most hated crossing (and I think some others will share this hatred) is the 114 st/University Ave crossing. That one is a complete clusterf**k that should've never seen the light of day.

The 111 avenue/106 street crossing at Kingsway is also right up there too

I very much agree with both. Especially with badly needed frequency increases to the south.

I cross 82 St and 112 Ave lots and never had any issue there. I think we're at least 30 years away until we hit capacity at 5 minute frequencies on the NE leg, contingent on Gorman and Horse Hills getting built out. Although the TOD that's finally getting built immediately north of Clareview is exciting.
