yeah there are so many white people living where our financial adviser lives at Keele and Sheppard..

Why is it that if you go down one street its unsafe and people get shot all the time.

Exactly, people are just ignorant, that's all. People just need to venture outside of their little world once in while and maybe they wouldn't sound like such morons when they talk about these places.

My white ass has spent 32 years in the Keele/Sheppard-Keele/Finch area. I bought water bottles at the Macs on Jane/Sheppard last night. And I usually get home using Driftwood after I pick up the late night McDonalds takeout at Jane/Finch (we have one at Keele/Finch as well now). I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number times that I've visited HRRH at Jane/Finch.

I've always found the reactions from 'outsiders' to that scenario fascinating. On a side note, even funnier is when you tell them that you bus and take the subway downtown. It comes across as a 4-hour trip in their minds.

Basically, I live my life more scared of white-collar-whitey robbing me, than I do of a black man shooting me. Of course, Giorgio knows the area and feels differently.

What can the army do for me? It doesn't seem the RCMP, FSCO or OSC can help. Hey, maybe G-Mam is onto something...

I remember when I first moved to Cabbagetown, everyone told me not to venture south of Gerrard into Regent Park. I thought that's madness, so I got out my bicycle and went for a ride through the area. All I saw was tons of kids playing in the swimming pool, kids sitting around chatting, as kids to everywhere, kids playing ball, etc. I didn't see anything to worry about.

The amount of ignorance that some people have is amazing. When an H&M opened at Dufferin Mall, I knew people who went to check it out, and they all though the area was "dangerous" and they felt "unsafe". My ex lived at Dufferin & College, so I took the 29 down sometimes or walked from Bloor, through the mall and to his place, and I never once felt unsafe or like I was stepping into some kind of ghetto. I honestly don't know how these Mississauga kids can say stuff like that with a straight face.

Dufferin Mall? Dangerous?

Some people need therapy for their fears.

Though it's funny how some Toronto Sun types might try to bunch him up w/Miller because he's a tax'n'spend ex-NDP MPP...though he's not only no longer NDP, he was squarely in the Lastman and then John Tory camp (Pitfield, I don't know/remember). Pinhead populism, y'know...

He is considered by the Millerites to be one of them now, though.

lol, then i pity the millerites....

Bunch of crackpot socialists will destroy the city.

Why don't people know it takes a combination of liberal social values and fiscal conservatism to run government well..

Desi, as a helpful hint, can you try to write in standard literate English? Very few people are going to read your posts if this is your style of communication. I really don't understand and don't care to understand what you are saying if I can barely read it.

Whether or not a neighbourhood is dangerous is subjective. Of course if you stick to the well-lit, heavily trafficked main roads and areas like Keele-Sheppard or Parliament St you'll feel and most likely be safe. I lived in Parkdale for a few years and largely avoided any form of harassment. However bad things were happening all the time around me from arsons to shootings to panhandling and often there was a constant police presence.

Once I was attacked on my way into my apartment by a mentally ill black man. The experience had me not leave the apartment for like four days afterwards. I'm glad I survived long enough to move to a better neighbourhood (downtown Brampton).

As for Dufferin Mall's safety...duh. I used to walk after dark through the back alley, Brock and Bloor St to get home (off Lansdowne) with shopping bags often and never really felt nervous going through that area.

I guess this brings up the whole question of: "are gangsters terrorists?"

I don't think so. Gangs' primary motivation is profit and power, not to terrorize others into behaving a certain way. Actually, any activity we would consider terroristic on the part of a gang largely runs counter to these goals, as it brings unwanted police attention.
