My only small wonder of the ice wall is where in Louise McKinney park. Ice walls last longer when they are not directly in the sun. The park itself faces south.

I'm under the impression that the ice wall will only be available during the winter while a rock wall will be available during the summer.

You are correct. I forgot to add winter in my question. My only slight concern is there is not a lot of shading and if the winter weather gets warm, any ice wall could potentially degrade quicker than if in a shaded spot (Ice district, the wall was shaded by the buildings blocking the sun)

Another good example of procurement being bizarrely delayed in this city. I get this is a relatively simple project but they're saying opening this year will be "weather permitting" -- or they could have procured and mobilized a contractor a month earlier and it'd be all but a guarantee. I really don't get the logic behind this.

Project update - November 2024

Construction started in August 2024 and has now wrapped up for the season.

Due to delays prior to launching construction, work will not wrap up before the end of 2024, as was previously projected. It is now anticipated this park will be complete and open to the public before the end of summer 2025.

Who could have seen this coming after you start construction in August.... this city kills me sometimes...

I don't understand why the city thinks that "RUBBERIZED PLAY AREA WITH SPHERES AND HILL" is such a great idea, they added those to the Kinistinâw Park, then to the Centennial Plaza, and now to this project. Why not add actual playgrounds? That's just lame
Ahhhhh....the good 'ol days when I was kid when you learned how to smoke cigarettes you stole from your mom's purse in the buried truck tires in sand playgrounds are LONG gone......

Well rubberized surfaces make it more accessible. Try rolling a wheelchair or walker through the old style play areas.

I hope the community actually uses this space. Like pop up markets or some kind of programming. It's not really the best location to just hang out, shaded on south and a busy street.

Heritage Valley District Park
Stage 2A (northwest of 119A Street and south of New Father Michael McCaffery Catholic school) is under extended maintenance for an additional one year and expected to be open by the end of summer 2025. This is to allow fields to be fully naturalize and seeds to be germinated.

Remaining Stage 2B (west of Father Michael McCaffery Catholic school) was on hold till the completion of the new Catholic school (Father Michael McCaffery). With the completion of the new Catholic school this fall, the construction on Stage 2B is initiated and anticipated to complete in summer 2025. A one-year maintenance period will follow.
