The change was made in 1997. When it was made, the signs were patched over the 16 & 16A respectively, it looks like on fell off. You can also see that when signage changed from Yellowhead 16 to TCH 16, Alberta Transportation patched over the signs, as evidenced by the large white outline on some the older freeway signage like at Hwy 22 at Entwistle.probably, when did they change names, I haven't heard 16x in eons...
