I'm a sucker for the history of old cinemas. This is New York news ------ if you don't mind.
We may be into another round of cinema closings because of the influence of the Internet.
The last session of mass-closings was in the 1950s because of the introduction of TV.
Sunshine Cinema, New York City - built c.1844 as a church.
Served as an Athletic club, Yiddish vaudeville theatre and warehouse (for 50 years). Revived in 2001 as an independent cinema and now sold to a developer for an office building.

I got it designated as a heritage building when the city was about to sell it off as surplus land. Build Toronto found a buyer who restored it and repurposed it as a craft brewery and events venue. It's an important link to the area's industrial past and the city's Art Deco heritage.

Then. May 2, 2014. 5:42pm. Already closed for good. This was a goodbye pic.
It's even harder now to find a place that makes their donuts on-site at 5am and serves coffee with that perfume of real coffee. McDs and Timmys ain't it. Krispy Kreme ain't it.
I have family in the Columbus OH area and Timmys is as ubiquitous there as here. A few Dunkin Donuts as well but same experience as Timmys. They do have 'Jolly Pirate Donuts' down there - with two, only two, down from a recent three locations. Jolly Pirate is a coffee place as your Maker intended coffee places to be.

That coffee shop used to be a favourite with TTC Drivers doing the night bus. They could get off there, hope in and get a coffee at 3 am without anyone even knowing. Eventually they had to stop doing that because people were complaining but they made a killing.
