The lettering on the safe: "H Rosenthal Jeweller". I wonder where they where?

December 26 addition.

Looks to be the same tree...

Toronto would have look way classier if they did not demolish so many very nice buildings, like the one on south-east corner of King and Jarvis, nord-west corner of Church and King or nord-east corner of Front and Yonge. There are so many other cases, but those are extreme.

QUOTE. Mustapha.

According to my 1944 December, Toronto Bell 'phone book:

Rosenthal A Co 125 King w. AD elaide 5554.

On the 1910 Goad map, 125 King Street West is part of the Prince George Hotel (SE corner of King & York), which was originally the Rossin House (built in 1856, destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1863; renamed the Prince George in 1909 after the future monarch):

I wonder if the photo of the safe was taken during the hotel's demolition in the early 1970's?

Postscript: After the hotel was demolished, a remnant of the east wall of the hotel remained until the Standard Life Centre was built in the early 1980's (completed in 1984). I took this picture during that time period:

Most likely, I shot the photo during the demolition of the hotel (1970s?).
The Prince George was directly across King St. from the old Globe & Mail building, wasn't it?

I bought myself a slide scanner for Xmas and have been going through my archive of old slides. This was one.

More Midway

Here are four photos of a very early CNE midway. The flags on the Manufacturer's building date them to c. WW1. I love the wide open spaces and dirt underfoot. Open drainage ditches are a nice touch as well.

I think it might have been around 1969/70 when Rossin House/Prince George bit the dust. (Incidentally, in that demolition shot, what's that dark brick-looking building in the background? Might give us a hint...)

I wonder what that Natures Prize Baby was about, and if it was real.

Looking at this view of Wellington, looking east from York (the Toronto Club still exists on the right), the dark building in Goldie's picture may be the fifth building easterly from the corner (with the signage on the side) if we compare the stone quoining on the corners:

Goldie's pic would be looking southerly from King towards the side of this building:
