So, you're going for straight up propaganda now, Mr. Nickel?

A: Did some research and found the poll and article he didn't bother to link anywhere in his post (Article: & Poll). This poll means nothing, and the article basically confirms that. Firstly, The election data was slyly tucked into a questionnaire on the topic of Lucy the Elephant at the Valley Zoo and people's views on her care in the hands of the city. Maybe a pressing issue for some, but not what we're looking for here. Secondly, if you used your finger on your scroll wheel to move down on the page, you'd see that 62% of the respondents said that they were undecided in their vote altogether, and the data he shared was from the 38% of the poll who had an idea of their choice. Really put's the validity of this poll into question, huh?
B: It's February and the election happens in October. It's waaaaay to early and this polling data isn't going to mean squat to the actual outcome (or any polling data depending on your outlook)
C: Andrew Knack hasn't come out and said he's running, only considering it. Why is he included in this polling data?

The poll and Mainstreet research, while being somewhat slimy in their approach here, aren't doing anything terribly wrong. It's him who chose to use this information to somehow validate that his campaign is taking off. The truth is that it's too early to judge that and he knows it. If he keeps taking this approach of sharing misleading information to validate his standing + relying on negative campaigning and the outrage market to gain success I'm sure he'll find himself and his campaign on shaky ground soon enough.

@archited Thanks! I posted that same comment (edited to use "you" pronouns instead of "he") on his campaign Instagram last night and he or someone from his team deleted it! 😂😭 Must've gotten under his skin a little bit. Also in his next post he's denouncing Prairie Sky Gondola for blocking him on twitter and "asking" for more information about the project soooo yeah

Mayoral candidate Cheryll Watson announced part of her platform today - creation of a Central Business Neighbourhood (CBN) between 100 to 104 Avenues and 97 to 109 Streets.
As part of that plan:
1. One-year moratorium on license fees for small and medium size enterprises.
2. 365 year round clean up / snow removal for mainstreet, sidewalks and active transportation pathways
3. Free LRT/bus within the CBN
4. Free one hour street parking 7 days a week (excluding event days and egress boundaries)
5. Dedicated 7 days a week - 8am to midnight - crisis and safety supports, Peace Officers and social worker units dedicated to CBN and area

That's some highlights. More info here:

I can support those measures, especially the clean up/snow removal and crisis and safety supports. Making Downtown safer and more attractive for everyone will be paramount to attracting new business and expanding existing businesses moving out of the pandemic.

if i could only pick two things to add:
  1. there would be a concerted effort by the city to keep downtown streets and sidewalks open. at the moment if you had to write a brand statement for downtown it would be “this is downtown – regardless of where you are or where you want to go, you can’t get there from here”).
  2. the defined area for downtown should include everything in the dba’s statutory boundaries. as the policy is written, it would exclude the arena, epcor tower, cn tower, the royal alberta museum, and the quarters between 97th and 95th Streets (which includes the brownlee building, the downtown farmers market, fire hall number 1 and the main police station etc.).

I am officially declaring my support for Cheryl here! I may not be eligible to vote, but I'll do everything in my power to help her get the votes from those who can!

Don't you just need to be an Edmonton 'resident' to vote in municipal elections and not even a Canadian citizen?

Sadly, not. Any electoral rights are reserved for Canadian citizens.
I could go and vote, but the minute someone realizes I'm not a citizen (when they cross with my SIN) the vote isn't counted

"The LAEA outlines that to be eligible to vote an elector must be 18 years old, a Canadian Citizen, an Alberta resident for six consecutive months preceding election day, and a resident of the local jurisdiction on election day."

the previous six-month local jurisdiction residency requirement has been removed for this year's elections.

@ChazYEG I get the struggle (when it comes to not being able to vote) too, I'm only gonna be 17 this year ☹️
