Silly socialists. Don't they realize the more they try to villify him; the more Rob Ford comes across as the underdog, folk hero, frugal saviour of the silent majority? Many people will be in shock come October.

I'm already in shock thinking that there is even a remote possibility that Rob Ford could become our next Mayor.

personally i'm sick of the fascist clownsillors running socialist silly haul with and the nazi communist mayor!

Maybe shocked at his result, if they were expecting the Nunziata/Jakobek basement for him. But I wouldn't expect a shock victory. And if he did win, expect a quick Evan Mecham-type implosion...

Because you think that a wife-beating homophobic uneducated bigot represents the silent majority. Perhaps in parts of Etobicoke ... but Toronto as a whole?

He's running as mayor - not head of the police union!

Took the words right out of my mouth!

Fresh start, perhaps the 905 is better suited to your special needs.

Stephen Harper is so adept at weathering economic storms that he doesn't even believe it's worth acknowledging them when they're approaching.

And maintaining Canada's place as the only G8 member nation without a national transit strategy shows his strong preference for Bus Rapid Transit.

dude.. that's just rhetoric, pandering to the economically challenged....

One of the GREATEST factors of economic depression is lost of confidence - most economist know this, so perhaps he was simply trying to boost confidence.

Harper - MA in economics
Layton - BA in Polisci.....

yup.. you get to choose....

(although I did not vote for either of them)

Can I also say that the feaseability of a 'National Transit Strategy' is none existence when you have a population smaller the the Tri-State Area but geographically 50 times larger....

Why do you need a 'national transit strategy' anyways? - most of the dippers I know want to bike, walk, and garden in the heart of the city....

Perhaps an LRT to Montreal would be a great way to keep the hipsters connected?

Wait, so your argument is that Harper believed an economic downturn was coming but decided to pretend like it wasn't in an effort to improve the economic situation?

If that is, in fact, your argument, I'll just let it stand.

Me neither! And I think voting based on what kind of university degree a candidate has is fairly retarded.

Harper has not impressed on the economic front. No serious economist anywhere would have backed his GST cuts and yet he pushed forward with them anyway.

I've never voted NDP in my life, but in general those who bike, walk and garden in the heart of the city still like the idea of transit.

A National Transit Strategy ensures consistent funding for transit operations and expansion. You know how people keep pointing to Madrid as a great example of a newly built transit system? Done off the back of a national transit strategy. Meanwhile Canadian cities get table scraps for all the provincial tax they pay and NOTHING for all the federal tax they pay, at least in terms of transit.

High-speed rail between Montreal and Toronto would be a very good idea.

To be fair though, he also pushed HST in Ontario and Quebec, which any serious economist would back.

Though one might be jaded and think that both the GST cut and HST introduction may have more to do with politics than economics.

To set the record straight, Layton has a PhD in poli-sci and was a respected academic before entering politics. (Though if we are picking leaders by academic records, Ignatieff wins running away)

Oh here we go. When the going gets tough, it's time for leftists to play the "gay" card. Listen, Rob Ford has proven his worth. He is like you and I. He does not profess to know the answers and he does not straddle the fence on issues to protect his approval rating like Mr. Rossi and Smitherman. I give the gay community more credit than to be played by a candidate just because he is also gay. What a cheap stunt. It shows me that Mr. Smitherman now realizes that Mr. Ford better represents the layman, who represents the majority vote. The "layman" comes in all colours and sexual orientations. We are those tired of being played by professional politicians like Mr. Smitherman.

Torontonians are united from downtown to the suburbs, that incumbent councillors' chronic spending in support of left leaning unsustainable ideologies for transit or other core and non-core services must be stopped in 2010.

So I should be forced out of a city that I love and choose to spend my life in just because I demand a little respect and accountability from the politicians elected to represent the public's interests, and not those of lobbyists? Oh and I wasn't aware that the 905 condoned bigotry, or that I did for that matter.
