Information about Gonorrhea Lectim

The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new virulent
strain of this old disease. The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim. It's
pronounced "Gonna re-elect 'em," and it is a terrible affliction.

The disease is contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior involving
putting your cranium up your rectum. Many victims contracted it in
2008...but now most people, after having been infected for the past 1-2
years, are starting to realize how destructive this sickness is.

It's sad because Gonorrhea Lectim is easily cured with a new drug just
coming on the market called Votemout. You take the first dose in 2010 and
the second dose in 2012 and simply don't engage in such behavior again;
otherwise, it could become permanent and eventually wipe out all life as we
know it.

Several states are already on top of this, like Virginia and New Jersey, and
apparently now Massachusetts, with many more seeing the writing on the wall.

Please pass this important message on to all those bright folk you really
care about.

Swiped from an american forum but applicable here as well.

Oh here we go. When the going gets tough, it's time for leftists to play the "gay" card. Listen, Rob Ford has proven his worth. He is like you and I. He does not profess to know the answers and he does not straddle the fence on issues to protect his approval rating like Mr. Rossi and Smitherman. I give the gay community more credit than to be played by a candidate just because he is also gay. What a cheap stunt. It shows me that Mr. Smitherman now realizes that Mr. Ford better represents the layman, who represents the majority vote. The "layman" comes in all colours and sexual orientations. We are those tired of being played by professional politicians like Mr. Smitherman.

Torontonians are united from downtown to the suburbs, that incumbent councillors' chronic spending in support of left leaning unsustainable ideologies for transit or other core and non-core services must be stopped in 2010.

In what world are Torontonians from the downtown to the suburbs united about anything? Where are you getting this? How do you come to these conclusions? You make my head want to explode.

Silly socialists. Don't they realize the more they try to villify him; the more Rob Ford comes across as the underdog, folk hero, frugal saviour of the silent majority? Many people will be in shock come October. :cool:

Rob Ford a folk hero? Are you 14 years old or just on some serious drugs? lol I seriously question the sanity (and the agenda) of anyone who thinks Rob Ford would make an acceptable mayor of Toronto. We would be laughed at by just about everyone. I'm sure all the Toronto haters and comedians across Canada, would be quite happy to see it.

Rob Ford as mayor, are you f#%king kidding me!

Many of my friends and work colleagues from East York, Etobicoke, North York, Old Toronto, Scarborugh and York and people they know that they tell me about. It's anecdotal sure, but we talk politics often enough to form a consensus on what sucks and what needs to change. Older generation citizens (whom typically make up the largest percentage of voter turnout on Election Day) are probably leaning that anti-waste way as well.

Why so serious? I was just messing around with my frenemies on the forum by doing my best disgruntled Toronto Sun commenter impression.

If Rob Ford does indeed not straddle the fence, that would imply he takes a position on a given issue, and therefore would presumably profess to know the answer to the issue on which he has taken a position.
Rob Ford's reputation for reducing municipal waste largely rests upon his pursuit of eliminating councillor perks ('freebies', not Gord) and reducing their office budgets. While this may be laudable in some quarters, it would reduce the City's annual operating budget by a mere pitenance (somewhere smaller than 1%). As for more practical issues that he has taken a stance on, some of them are wholly unrealistic. For example, selling air-rights over subway stations in order to fund subway construction. Possibly the most desirable property in this regard is the old bus terminal at Eglinton. Assuming a generous estimate that these air-rights could be sold for $200,000,000, this would fund approximately one kilometer of subway, if that. Most properties where air-rights could be sold would be for a value significantly less than that. Therefore, Ford's subway funding plan is largely untenable. By not straddling the fence on this issue and professing to know the answer, it is clear that Ford doesn't have an f-ing clue what he is talking about. But maybe he's being disengenous because we all know that subways are for socialists.

Listen, Rob Ford has proven his worth.
No other city councillor has been the subject of more ethical investigations, more criminal investigations, and more reprimands. To claim he has proven his worth is absolutely baseless.

He is like you and I.
Let's make this quite clear; he is nothing like me. I'll let you speak for yourself.

He does not profess to know the answers and he does not straddle the fence on issues to protect his approval rating like Mr. Rossi and Smitherman.
Smitherman should be ashamed of his fence sitting. But Ford is no way near the calibre you want in a use-car salesman. Let alone a city councillor. And any Torontonian who considers voting for him for mayor needs to sit down and look at his record. As much as I really don't like Rossi, Smitherman, or Pantalone ... they should be taken seriously as candidates. Just looking at performance - the guy has a long record of missing meetings, not being prepared for meetings, and not understanding what is going on at meetings. He has failed at the job of councillor. He doesn't deserve a shot at mayor. He will embarrass this city.

I give the gay community more credit than to be played by a candidate just because he is also gay.
Why are you focussing on the gay issue. If you ignore Ford's homophobia, he's still not acceptable. The guy is a disgrace!

And supporting this Nimby clearly tells us a lot about you as well.

Yeah, well, they're probably the sort who thinks this is good urban design

So I should be forced out of a city that I love and choose to spend my life in just because I demand a little respect and accountability from the politicians elected to represent the public's interests, and not those of lobbyists? Oh and I wasn't aware that the 905 condoned bigotry, or that I did for that matter.

Just to clarify, you're not in any way implying the 905 doesn't suffer from many of the issues your bringing up?
Because rest assured, they exist there as well - the great thing about the 905 is the media coverage is typically next to null, and generally, whenever there is some, it's positive.

My general take on the recent developments is that Smitherman is behaving like the defacto winner. In politics, sometimes a victory is had by simply usurping the win, and that is what I expect from George Smitherman, save for some exceptional slip-up. He's a very canny and seasoned campaigner.

I have appreciated George going after Rob Ford. (The Star opinion of last week went along the same lines). Further, there are those among us who were wearing "silence = death" t-shirts 25 years ago as we watched our friends die of AIDS. More recently Rob Ford found it quite acceptable to trivialize the disease. There are those among us who may haunt Rob Ford during this campaign, to remind voters that this guy is grossly intolerant and more than a little bit stupid.

Well, maybe if you weren't so dated and regressive in your opinions, then maybe us Leftists would give you some more respect. Please, don't act like your shit doesn't stink.

When I referenced the 905, I did so in a political light, meaning that you're right wing opinions may draw you more acclaim there.

'Rocco Rossi News Release' said:
today i went to the core of toronto to announce my determination to be toronto’s “jobs mayor.” our unemployment rate is almost ten per cent and we’ve got a million people coming here over the next ten years. Toronto is now a bedroom community for jobs in the 905, when we should be the engine room of jobs and growth for the entire gta.

We’re going to need new thinking and a fresh perspective if we’re to remain a city of hope and opportunity. I will be a mayor who understands, appreciates, celebrates and leverages the incredible business talent in our community, because supporting job creation has to be job one for toronto’s next mayor.

So this morning i announced six practical changes to move toronto toward a new era of economic growth and job creation. These include:
• creation of invest gta to replace invest toronto to strengthen economic growth across the entire region;
• eliminating the alphabet soup of agencies currently promoting economic growth into one office reporting directly to the mayor;
• leverage toronto’s emerging status as a world financial centre;
• creating real economic partnerships with toronto’s three universities and several community colleges;
• reduce red tape for small business, and enter formal job creation partnerships with toronto’s bia’s (business improvement associations) and multi-cultural chambers of commerce to build trade and bridges with emerging economies;
• streamlining the city’s planning and development bureaucracy to give the construction more certainty, allowing it to finish more projects, on-time and on-budget.
I encourage you to read my speech and forward this e-mail to your families, friends and colleagues. I want everyone to know that if i am elected mayor on october 25th, toronto will once again be open for business.

Much respect for him that not only has a VISION... one that's also willing to put SPECIFIC Platform policies in place.

He's changing the game..... pushing the pace!

Otherwise, we'd be

- Smitherman Platitues
- Pantalone provincial handouts
- Ford Save Save Save
- Mamolliti randomness.. lol

Please don't portray this thread as a left-wing domain (however you happen to personally characterize that).
